  1. You may start with “Live in London “ a double CD with a great band In concert. On YouTube there are a lots of clips of this album. I love his later albums more then his earlier but I have a sweet spot for old wise rock poets over young anger ones, a true rock poet improve ageing. I prefer today’s Patty Smith for instance. Another one I file among apostles and forgot to mention.
  2. Leonard Cohen is in my apostles' section with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Van Morrison, long lasting testimony of the Holy Church of Poetry of Rock.
  3. I had a similiar set up in my bar, when I run it.
  4. I m happy I forgot how much I payed the that one , never heard The Holly Kaleidoscope.
  5. I have an original first pressing and a 2007 audiophile reissue of Folk, Blues & Beyond, yes the reissue is quieter, but those guys at Decca knew how do a record.
  6. That makes a lot of sense. Edit: and it will solve the problem of the pc headphone output, converting digital into line signal.
  7. Yes, I meant that. A digital signal in a PC pass throu a D/A converter and an amp, amp designed to handle the headphone. The amp of a source is designed to handle the preamp section of an integrated amp, or a preamp. I am not an engineer, but I know they handle different impedences. I assume that the D/A converter and the amp of headphone of a pc aren't the state of art, anyway when I hooked the PC at the hifi the sound was absolutely flat and a little bit compressed, at high volume was a pain. BTW I compared the cd and the Mac because I have all my cds on an external HD and I'd have appreciated the ease of playing music without handle cds. I guess a decent external D/A converter hooked at the Mac might sound better. I was wrong I meant "headphone output isn't a line OUPUT", sorry.
  8. I said "usually PC headphone output sucks". There are stand alone headphone amps that make sound gorgeous a $300 headphone. The output of my Mac into my preamp sounds bad. My experience.
  9. From the PC headphone output into amp line in? Yes, and it sounds bad because headphone output isn't a line input and the PC headphone output usually sucks. Not trolling, promise.
  10. Life is transient, so is my music collection, I just love playing old records with a turntable.
  11. That's a good news for my ears and bad news for my wallet
  12. Did you compare it with cd? One of my fave Henderson records.
  13. I started with discogs because I archived my collection on it, admittely not the greatest archival tool, but it's ok for me. Then I discovered I had dozens of dupes and hundreds of records and cds I didn't listen to in decades and will not listen anymore, so I started to sell that is definitely easy once your collection is on discogs. I sold audiophile vinyls for good money, CDs is another story.
  14. As far I know Amazon fee is even higher then Discogs.
  15. Absolutely agree. I tend to price CDs a little bit lower then median price.
  16. I sell stuff on discogs, mostly CDs, only few rare CDs fetch some money, most are in the 4/6 € range. Considering packaging cost, discogs and paypal fees, selling CDs on discogs is a waste of time. I do it because at the moment I am unemployed, so I have too much spare time. Edit: but yes, I am selling them, there are people out there still buying CD.
  17. Though there are lots of outstandig Mahler performances out there, my real first understanding of Mahler passed through Kubelik.
  18. Mahler Symphony 5 & 6 , Kubelik, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, DG vinyl set.
  19. I like Mendelssohn’s Karajan. I don’t like DG sound engineers, usually. Now playing: Vinyl set, IMHO the top of Schubert's rendering.
  20. Vinyl box set, I lost the booklet, if someone could make a scan it would much appreciated. edit: Just discovered the original booklet has 190 pages I think I had a smaller one so forget about the scan I’ll buy it on discogs one of these days pretty cheap classical vinyl sets nowadays.
  21. At the top of my Ludwig Van's sonatas with the first Kempff cycle.
  22. Artur Schnabel's Beethoven Sonatas, from an old vinyl set.
  23. Some Beethoven/Philarmonia/Klemperer this morning, from a big vinyl box set
