  1. Not me. Probably that very same chinese or russian mafioso is the president of a 'legal' company that are manufacturing the very same 'legit' issue for entertainment corporations in a lager style factory located the suburbs of Shanghai or Moscow, with workers in semi-slavery and without any respect for enviromental issues. In the fashion business, 'Made in Italy' included, it goes like this. Most of the stuff from Dolce e Gabbana, Prada or Armani, just to name a few, are manufactured in this way, only the latest process is done in Italy, so it has the 'Made In Italy' certification. So when you buy an Armani suit at 3000 bucks you should know that was made in China, it costed 80 bucks to Armani, and the italian factory will add the labels and the buttons. But, hey, you got an Armani!
  2. Bill Evans - The Interplay Sessions - Milestone twoofer.
  3. Correct.
  4. Booker Little - Out Front - Candid (Japan) Can't believe I never listened to this one!
  5. Even worse, look at this It was a fake of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma.
  6. Sonny Criss - Jazz USA - Imperial, King.
  7. A high quality collection expecially if you're in some metropolitan area like NY or LA is easy to sell, just contact the common big stores. Selling individual LP may be an hassle, I mean that for getting the most you have to work on it. Like everything in life, but lottery.
  8. You WANT to pay import duties? (Faints) MG Just the minimum (100$) so the shipping companies are eager to deliver in order to get 20%. I rely on the greedy of human being for a secure shipping when the goods are worth it.
  9. I subscribed the Music Matters 45 reissue series, and they are the best sounding reissues I found, with a gorgeous 'packaging', and they managed to print some more 'adventurous' stuff then the usual suspects, (True Blue, Blue Train, the early Morgan, Mobley and Clark that you have as 45 two disc, as 200 grams mono, 200 grams stereo and so on). Let's take the Analogue Production stuff, they reissued a very limited edition of one hundred Prestiges titles at 45rpm, 50 bucks, that are now OOP and go on ebay for 100 bucks, plus the usual suspect at 33rpm, Evans, Monk, Davis. The stuff I look for are less known records like Elmo Hope, some Garland, Draper, etc, I understand they are less interesting commercially speaking then the 100th reissue of Bill Evans. If you look for these 'obscure' records you got only the japanese pressings or 1K originals.
  10. Guess that explains why an increasing number of Ebay sellers would sooner ship to Congo than Italy... Maybe not, I never visited Congo's record shops, but the jazz bins in Rome's record shops are usually a collection of one hundred super bargain reissues of super bargain hits of Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman, usually beated up, almost dead already I would say, and they cost 10 euros. This happens because over here the used record market is negligibile, the tax and the rent for commercial space are high so the shop's owners put on ebay anything different then a Louis' dead record. Included that famous Horos, I got a few of them, bought in a now dead shop, never payed them less then 50 euros. Guess I got 40 more or less. I got your records under my radar Dan, I'll do a serious search and an order this week end.
  11. A couple of times the guys of the shipping companies over here didn't left any advice leaflet in mailbox. The stuff went back to the seller after a week...and I payed the shipping two times. This happens within the EU, because when I got some stuff from US, particularly biggest parcels, I have to pay the custom duties. Actually when I have something of value shipping from abroad EU, I ask to the seller to declare at least 100 dollars, so I am sure that the guys of the shipping companies will be very prompt.
  12. You know that I live outside the civilized world. Over here record shops are depressing like the political situation. So the web is my only source, when the Milestone twoofers on internet go for more then 20 bucks, plus shipping cost, Japan is a reasonable safe harbour. Blue Note a part, there are dozens of early Prestige, Riverside, Transition, Savoy, Contemporary, Mercury that are beyond reason. If an original New Jazz pressing, not even a deep groove, goes for 300 bucks in VG+ condition, well I grab a japanese reissue for 20 bucks, let's say 30, in immaculate condition. I go for later pressing when available, but not all the stuff has been reissued in a decent manner. I am fine with buying a NY or a Liberty pressing of a 47W63rds, but I don't stumble on them often. In my short experience japanese pressings on ebay are true NM, I couldn't say the same for a later Prestige blue label for instance. I am not really picky about pressings per se, I am about grading, sound quality and price. The game was fun when you bet 10 bucks on later pressings, now that the blind bet is 100 bucks... Banzai!
  13. Jackie McLean - Capuchin Swing - BN King
  14. Ok, I raise the flag of truce. When lots of titles in my wish list go for 1K and more on ebay I have a choices: become a kamikaze and head myself and my bank account against the original pressings carriers or look at east...and go for japanese pressings. (Actually someone may think there is another option: cd, but you know wich is the teaching of my spiritual master) Lately I bought some of them, mostly King pressings, (from Tanno San and ebay) but I don't know nothing about them, a part that most members here warmly reccomended them. So far I am pretty satisfied with King. I noted there are lots of different reissues: Japan Victor, Toshiba, etc. I presume there are also original japanese first pressings, but my japanese is poor and I couldn't really untangle myself in this jungle, no way to know the mastering (analog or digital), etc. Any info, opinion, link, suggestion, reference are welcome.
  15. V.A. - Best Coast Jazz- Mercury, Japan (with Clifford Brown, Herb Geller, Max Roach, Joe Maini JR., Walter Benton, Kenny Drew, Curtis Counce)
  16. Monk: 'Round Midnight' in progress. 21' 55". I can hear Monk's thoughts.
  17. Considering that you are going to invest more or less the same budget needed to resume a mission to the moon, I suggest you to buy this book, not for the quoting, but for the info about pressings. Very useful.
  18. Donald Byrd - Byrd's Eye View - Transition (King Japan)
  19. Plissken? My name is Plissken
  20. Lp a part, in wich I have a good experience, expecially buying them, I always sold my cds to record shops in order to buy vinyl actually, I got a credit for them and when I found something good I use the credit. Now my fave record shop closed down and the others haven't got any interesting stuff, nor Horo at all, and they usually pay 2 euros for cd, that is frustrating. I mean that I prefer to sell them here, at least someone will listen to them!
  21. And what about for the OOP stuff?
  22. I would like to offer some cds here, but I haven't any clue about set the price. I saw that someone uses the amazon price as reference and then sets a discount, would it be ok?
