Well, nobody posted, so I presume nobody has 'fave' performers. About killing them, it was a bad attempt of irony, since nobody laughed.
-
Ok, I am wrong. I got your message. When I'll meet Kovacevic I'll kill him for that boring Schubert... Now I'd like to know who killed Klemperer, Kempff, Gilels, Menuhin, Boehm, Kleiber and Rostropovich...Chuck?

Now and then I bump into this thread... And every time I think it's beyond my capability to narrow down to five...
-
Not sure I can tell apart. I mean that some performers drawn me into the music, maybe the slow tempos of Klemperer (not really slow IMHO) were 'wrong', but I was never disappointed, and Kovacevic's Beethoven is often sublime, but Kempff'one moves some inner chords... Hope it helps

Obviously I could buy an original vinyl pressing of it, with a sounding 10:40 Afro Blue, like my copy...
-
I guess there are some performers that just got you, whatever they do, no matters if there are better peformances (or recordings) of that concert or sonata. My short list: Klemperer, Kempff, Gilels, Menhuin, Boehm, Quartetto Italiano, Beaux Art Trio. edit: forgot Rostropovich and Kleiber

Ah, now I understood why Honda failed in the last years' MotoGP championships, they were working on something totally different. -

I started collecting CDs very hesitantly...

Unfortunately I bought my first cd player very early, 1984 (I think it was the first player Philips realesed: CD 100), it costed me the whole summer's wages, I was at university then. Well, I had that damn expensive 'future next' thing and cds were so expensive! I still bought lp for some years, (they were so cheap compared to cd at times ) and very fews cds, I mean I went in a record shop and I could buy three or four 'best buy' lps for the price of one cd. Then frequent movings pushed me toward CD and its facility, obviously the cost of cds went down, and forgot my LPs and TT in my parent's garage for fifteen years. When my dad passed away, we sold the house, and I had to recollect all the stuff. I set up the TT in my stereo and I realized I am an analog guy. edit: forgot to say that for years K7s were my first source, walkman's effect I guess, though I didn't buy original K7, usually I got them recorded from friends, I really start collecting cd in the 1992. -

It's like forcing your partner to wear a Marilyn Monroe's mask while having sex... pretty sick IMHO. -
Cinema a part, I, (and bikers all over the world should too IMHO) wish to thanks Dennis Hopper for Easy Riders. Got the bike's fever when I saw the movie in my youth, and it has been a source of happiness for my whole life since I rode the first one. So long Billy.

Inter won but the spectacular football has lost yesterday evening. I don’t like the fact that a team with ball possession of 37%, won. But of course we have to count the goals and not the possession. Maybe I am a bit partisan about the issue, though I am not an Inter Milan fan, and they played the whole game with eleven non italian players and a portuguese trainer, but I think that football is a tactical game too. Mourinho interpreted the game in the best way, Bayern missed Ribery, so they were a little light in attack, Robben a part, they needed always to keep forward two midfielders in order to attack, so the Bayern was lacking in midfield, Inter Milan exploited this lacking with couterattacks. About the possesion, doesn't mean too much IMHO, when you are loosing, you should keep the ball in order to score. And a final is always a special match, often the teams are too frightened for playing at best. For sure Barcellona played the best for most of the season, but lost the semifinal double games. What I like about the football is that is unpredictable, it's not a mainstream movie where the good, the best and the most beautiful prevail at the end. Unfortunately nowadays only a handful teams in Europe have the economic power to gain a Championship. -
Nowadays the only difference between the 'tour de France' and the one 'de Rolling Stones' is that Keith Richards is enough honest to complain about the low quality of the 'doping' on today's market. That is pretty sad, I always loved bike's races since I was a child.

How Would You Describe Your Music Collecting
porcy62 replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I stopped to buy CD, a part some new stuff I am really interested for, usually ECM, World Music or 'strange stuff' that really intrigues me, (that means less then 10 cd per year). I still buy cd at concerts, if I liked the concert. With the euro at this level, and the original pressings at ludicruos prices, I am going to stop buying these as well. Still buy some vinyl, mostly japan pressings and cheaper stuff. Definitely not at the level of some times ago. Though I could be a compulsive buyer now and then and spend way too much on 'bargain' records, that means a 'not a bargain at all' total at the end of the purchase! Overall I already own thousands of records worth of relistening. Too much music I own, too poor knowledge of it I have. Time to dig in it.
