  1. I'm curious to find out how others feel about the use of electronics in jazz music. I recently bought the new release of David Binney, "The Time Verses." There are tracks on this session with electronics. For some reason I can't get myself to accept the user of electronics or computers with jazz. A few years back, I saw Cecil Taylor with Tony Oxley at the Village Vanguard. I actually attended 11 of the 12 sets that week. Tony Oxley used computers and electronics on a few sets. I just couldn't understand or get into the electronic sounds when used in jazz. That week was recorded by someone and I got a copy of the sets. I was listening to a few sets tonight and I still don't get the use of electronics and computers in jazz. Even Bill Frisell at times turns me off to his music. Bill uses electronics. Does anyone else here fell this way?
  2. Regardless, any newly discovered Bud is worth getting.
  3. Was this one every posted here?
  4. I don't have vol 2. I will have to check.
  5. I have this session on the Criss Cross label. My copy has 8 tracks. On iTunes this session has additional track. Does anyone know if there are other releases that have more music on iTunes? https://www.crisscrossjazz.com/album/1043.html I just noticed that Sonny Rollins's "Sonny, Please!" session has an additional track on iTunes.
  6. Here are my responses to this BFT. I will now read the other responses. I have cement in my ears. 1 – Conformation. Just a guess, is this Clifford Jordan on tenor? The tenor sound reminds me of him. I don’t know what recording this is. I have just about all his recordings so this is something new to me if it is him. 2 - 70’s jazz. No idea who it is. 3 – no clue. 4 – another one I have no clue. 5 – I have led in my ears. No clue on this. I like the tenor player. 6 – The bone player is real good. Once again I can’t ID anyone. 7 – Soprano player has a nice tone. The tune sounds familiar but changed up a lot, but I don’t recall the title or any of the musicians. 8 – Just guessing. Could this be the Charles Tolliver Orchestra? Charles on trumpet. 9 – Sounds like James Carter. Can’t mistake his sound, but I don’t know recording. 10 – No clue. 11 - Don’t know this. I like the tenor player on this one. He/She has good range, high and low of the sax.
  7. I recently pick up a copy of this recording. I am enjoying every track on this CD. Roberta put words to Jimmy Heath's compositions. She did an excellent job along with her great singing. I would recommending getting a copy. Jimmy Heath's playing is superb.
  8. Pianist Jodi Christian. I just got a copy of his duo session with Louis Smith, "The Very Thought Of You" on SteepleChase. It is a very fine recording. I liked his playing and I will look for some more by him.
