  1. Hey man, Joe and I have two CDs worth of our compositions out there. What you got? Touche. You got me there.
  2. CNN today. Greenland glaciers dumping ice into Atlantic at faster pace Thursday, February 16, 2006; Posted: 2:05 p.m. EST (19:05 GMT) Many bergs are calved each year from the Kangerdlussuaq glacier in east Greenland. ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) -- Greenland's southern glaciers have accelerated their march to the Atlantic Ocean over the past decade and now contribute more to the global rise in sea levels than previously estimated, researchers say. Those faster-moving glaciers, along with increased melting, could account for nearly 17 percent of the estimated one-tenth of an inch annual rise in global sea levels, or twice what was previously believed, said Eric Rignot of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. An increase in surface air temperatures appears to be causing the glaciers to flow faster, albeit at the still-glacial pace of eight miles to nine miles a year at their fastest clip, and dump increased volumes of ice into the Atlantic. That stepped-up flow accounted for about two-thirds of the net 54 cubic miles of ice Greenland lost in 2005. That compares with 22 cubic miles in 1996, Rignot said. Rignot and his study co-author, Pannir Kanagaratnam of the University of Kansas, said their report is the first to include measurements of recent changes in glacier velocity in the estimates of how much ice most of Greenland is losing. "The behavior of the glaciers that dump ice into the sea is the most important aspect of understanding how an ice sheet will evolve in a changing climate," Rignot said. "It takes a long time to build and melt an ice sheet, but glaciers can react quickly to temperature changes." Details of the study were being presented Thursday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The study appears Friday in the journal Science. The researchers believe warmer temperatures boost the amount of melt water that reaches where the glaciers flow over rock. That extra water lubricates the rivers of ice and eases their downhill movement toward the Atlantic. They tracked the speeds of the glaciers from space, using satellite data collected between 1996 and 2005. If warmer temperatures spread to northern Greenland, the glaciers there too should pick up their pace, Rignot and Kanagaratnam wrote. The only way to stem the loss of ice would be for Greenland to receive increased amounts of snowfall, according to Julian Dowdeswell of the University of Cambridge, who wrote an accompanying article. 3. The video is in two parts, the first part is with the Sonny Rollins trio (no piano) recorded in Europe in the early sixties(?), the other is Dexter playing at various menues in Europe in the sixties, mostly from Montmartre, Copenhagen.
  4. I guess no one is up for the challenge. What's the word.?.. wussy.
  5. The woman I work with, her husband sells home heating oil. She said they are going to charge more, not because of demand, because they aren't delivering as much, and they need to make money to pay the workers. Screwed either way you look at it.
  6. Would anyone have this? Another member here had it but the taped snapped. It's no longer in print.
  7. Probably listened to someone and said, "You think I can $80 for a T shirt? Let's do it."
  8. wrong: all serious scientist will tell you that things are changing and that humans are the cause. All scientists that tell you otherwise have too much corporate money in there pockets. It's leaded gasoline and CFCs all over again. I agree 100% with this. Put money in someone's pocket and they will tell you what you want to hear.
  9. I believe the glaciers are receding the length of 3 football fields a year. Didn't recently an iceberg the size of Rhode Island just melt?
  10. I've said the same thing. But I most likely won't be alive in 50 years, but my daughter will. It will get tougher as the years go on if we don't stop burning fossile fules and cutting down the tress. I just read, the Earth as about a 10% increase of cloud cover in the past 45 years. We'll turn into Venus soon. No way for the trapped heat to escape the Earth.
  11. Since this forum houses many musicians, I was wondering if we could have some kind of a musical challenge. We would each write a tune, record it if we can, and maybe post it somewhere so that others taking part can listen. We would have those not competing pick the winner. It could be something you've already written, just make it something original. Do you think this is possible?
  12. I understand what you're saying, but it is clear as day where I live. The earth's overall temperature has risen 1 degree Celsius in the past 75 years. The polar caps are shrinking to where polar bears are finding it hard to hunt. Watching the Olympic Games this week, parts of the Alps were covered with a material to prevent the snow from melting away. Which would have happened if this wasn't done. Water lines along the cost are rising. I live 4 blocks from the Atlantic and the piers have water marks higher than ever before.
  13. Sonny Rollins, the concert for 911. Can't wait to listen to it.
  14. I live in NY. This past weekend we were hit with a major snow storm. The snow fall by me didn't start to stick to the ground until the storm was half way over. The ground was too warm. Three days later, it has already melted away a good deal of it. To my surprise outside my house today I saw tulips and pansies growing. I also saw my first robin on my lawn. Those birds usually don’t return north for at least another month. December and January have been the warmest every recorded in the north east of the United States. This may have been what tricked the robins to come back already, but it is not normal. Have you noticed any changes in the environment where you reside?
  15. Damn right. I'm going to sell mine if I could get that price.
  16. So what I've gathered so far, it seems you need to supplement yourself in some other way, other than just doing gigs. Spouses that work help a great deal.
  17. I’m curious if someone today can make a decent living as a jazz musician. Does it require you to also teach to make the bucks?
  18. On that day there were 311 memebers and vistors on line at one time. What was going on that day that drew so many users? Was it the baning of ariceffron? I don't remember.
  19. This is some great shit.
  20. Did you play by credit card? If it was, I would contact your credit card company and ask for their help. This happened to me once. I bought a bounch of CD's from Aebersold records but never got them. After they refused to provide me with the UPS tracking number, I sent all the emails and information to my credit card company. I got all my money back.
  21. The porn, that was going to be my next poll, but my hand were sticky.
