  2. In your opinion. The Giants have a shot at two teams which could elevate their chances and/or decrease the WC number of GB. They have 6 games to make-up 4.5 games in the next week. I happen to believe you have control over anything that is left to do yet...including winning games which could propel your team into the playoffs. Give up or stop winning, then you have lost your control. That is controlling your fate, Dan. On this and any other planet.
  3. Oh, what the hell...Happy Birthday, Dan.
  4. If the season ended today, sure. Apparently, you aren't factoring the fact everybody is still playing baseball around the league. Too many variables to go counting anybody out who is close. Still 20 games left, Dan. Those six games I mentioned loom large for the Giants. 4.5 games isn't that much to pick up at this point. Rockies could go in the tank and the Dodgers pitching is running out of gas. Rockies meet the Dodgers for the last three games of the season, too. A lot can happen between now and October.
  5. Newsflash: If you don't at this moment qualify for a playoff spot, you don't hold your fate in your own hands. Doesn't matter how many games you have against the competition. If they win against everyone else, chances are your games against them won't matter at all. The Rockies just need to win. The Giants need help. Giants play the Rockies for three and get the Dodgers for three more on the weekend. Currently, they are 4.5 games behind in the Wild Card. Win and there is still a chance. Lose, go home. In short, they control their own fate, Dan.
  6. Niners looked pretty darn good today....20-16 over the defendfing NFC Champ AZ Cards. And the added plus is they ditched those butt ugly uniforms for that classic Niners look. Go Niners!!!
  7. WTF.....like it matters?
  8. Serena Williams + prima dona status x 2 self-absorbed parents = One huge lost opportunity.
  9. The defense and the way they don't make productive outs doesn't help the fact the line up isn't good at all. The great news is the pitching has been even better than expected and going into next year they addressed the needs of the fifth starter (if Penny comes back thats Six) and a 2nd baseman. Its mid September and the Bay Area is still taking Giants so thats a good thing. True. The Gigantes still hold their fate in their own hands...at least for now. And you're right: Fans are still talking baseball when for the last five years, we all started saying, "Go Niners" around this time of year. Penny is 3-0 since joining the team; even better news if he signs next year. Pray for a sweep of the hated Dodgers next weekend!
  10. Go Giants, you guys are running away with it, help a brother out. Sigh, the Rockies have the easier schedule here on out. If the Giants split the Phil-Mil road trip I will be happy. And the Rocks are reeling. They have lost 6 of their last 10 games. They have the hitting, but not the pitching. and since this post the Rockies have won 9/10. Thanks, thanks a lot. Not that the season is over but the fat lady is walking up to the mic. Considering the Giants and everybody else in the NL West except the Padres is way better than I thought they would be its hard to get too upset. Yeah, but to get thumped like that by the [hated] Dodgers tonight? What's going on with these guys, anyway?
  11. I had the flu...not the H1N1, but the garden variety, man of the street, average everyday flu. It still sucked. $91 dollars worth of [not covered by my insurance] Theriflu killed it. What worries me is this is still September...this is going to be a brutal flu season, folks. Affordable health care now!!!

  13. I have had a few Puros Indios over the years, too. Very nice, but I haven't tried one a very great while.
  14. If you have the cash, try a Davidoff. Very mild and the aroma is exquisit.

  22. I used to puff on a pipe, but there is just something special about the classic blue smoke, earthy aroma and creamy finish of a well made stogie. My wife hates them, so I am a fellow porch dweller.
  23. If you go to Mexico, Cuban cigars are prominently for sale at the airport. After that, you are on your own. I'd be real careful with that. My buddy bought a few [what he thought were Cohibas] and they were not only a knock-off but had "dry rot" for want of a better term. Went up like a matchstick. I will say this, though...I have been fortunate to have smoked real Cubans [Romeo y Juliet and a Cohiba Robusto] that my same buddy bought when in France and then England. Both were an excellent smoke, but they are so strong I had to put them down after a while then finish them later. BTW, for those just starting out, never [and I mean never] have a cigar on an empty stomach. Always after a full meal or at least some sort of a nosh. Trust me.
  24. I have gotten four crowns but [knock on wood] no root canal as yet. My wife has had two done and the recovery time is a bit of time, I'm afraid.
