  1. Congratulations Dan! The Red Sox are World Champions for the second time in four years!
  2. Nah. Rocks in six. They're just on fire right now. They are young and got nothing to loose. It will be a fun WS to watch: Sox pitching vs Rocks hitting. Uh hem.... paging Goodspeak? Congrats to Dan, Boston and their fans, Rockies and fans have my condolences. Cleveland didn't win, Skieth.
  3. Hey! Niners only lose by three touchdowns! Isn't that GREAT?
  4. Books that you WISHED existed, that you'd actually buy, (or perhaps they do exist?? - !!!) A book that tells teenagers that their college educated parents aren't stupid and just might know how to get accepted to college. Nah. That'll never happen. What was I thinking?
  5. Hmmm.... I'll look into it. Thanks! San Clemente is indeed beautiful, though about 45 min away from San Diego. On the plus side you live next to these: For the record.... San Onofre is several miles to the South of San Clemente.
  6. Uh-huh. You are aware [i hope] that someone who clicks on a post you made [and at random] might think your['re] a mental midget? But, hey....you do what you think will sell your posts. I was just trying to help. Maybe this would have been a better question. Now it makes sense. I see. So good grammar equals shouting. Interesting. What would ALL CAPS mean, then?
  7. Not quite sure I understand. Are you asking if my cars are old [they are] or are you asking if the potential buyers of cars are? BTW...it would be "you're" not "your." in your signature: "oh, by the way, I think your an idiot aloc" Capitalization would be something to consider as well. And you're welcome.
  8. Or the Cardinals last year. Somebody's changed his tune. But I don't think I ever said that it was wrong, per se - only that some poor teams back into the playoffs and then get hot and win it all. This year's Rockies are a better team than last year's Cards, imo, and not only because they won 8 more games in the regular season. Yeah, they were about as far from the scorching hot Rockies as a team could be. They were doing everything they could to hand a weak NL Central to the Astros. Weak? I dunno. Cubbies looked pretty darn good this year. I was talking about the 2006 Cardinals (and central division.) The World Champion Cards only won 83 games that year, and just barely held on to win the division. Well....they sure kicked the crap out of the Tigers.
  9. My wife and I teach....and we live on School Street. No kidding.

Cubbies looked pretty darn good this year. A lot of NL teams could have gone to the WS this year and good ones, too. Cubs, Mets, Pads, D'backs, Phillies, Brew-ha's even the [hated] Dodgers could have made it....if my Giants didn't knock them out of the NL West lead in early September. Ray Durham's walk-off HR was the highlight of that series....maybe even the year :g :g
  12. The yutzes at Comcast need to be taken out a collectively slapped......vigorously.
  13. I'll take Tim McCarver and points. "Base running is the most important aspect of the game." What a moron.
  14. I think that's the post-modern snarky title. Good point.
  15. Most smartest?
  16. I had a neighbor/friend originally from Boston nicknamed Grub. He got the name was because he was a chef....or so I'm told. Yes, "grub," with one B, is slang for food; which may be archaic. Grub is also the larvae stage of some bugs/insects, e.g. the june bug. [June bug grubs mature in cow shit, then turn into a big colorful beetle like bug.] Bet you won't comment to me anymore. Nah. I'll talk to anybody.
  17. I can't say I'm happy about last night's game, but if the BoSox sweep.....I'm OK with that. They're playing like true champions right now.

  19. Against Prop. 13 or the way houses are assessed for taxes? The argument opposed to Prop 13 is that it hurts public education. Property taxes are the main source of income for public education. It seems to me that if we allow ourselves the privilege to whine about how bad schools are [which they aren't] shouldn't we also be doing something to pay for the increased demand for tests and the decreased numbers of qualified college students who don't become teachers for the lack of a reasonable salary? Money's got to come from someplace. The state isn't giving it, neither are the Feds, but they sure as hell want all those tests they force us to administer don't they? Prop 13 hinders the ability for public education to function properly and still remain fiscally solvent. If your question goes to assessment then Dan is correct. The value of the purchase price is ratcheted up with the increased value of your home's potential resale price. It is upon this value the property taxes are set.
  20. I know you guys aren't going to believe this, but I used to rent an apartment on Sesame Street in Torrance, CA. Nice place but cashing checks was a real pain in the ass. No kidding. Cashier: Will that be check or charge, Sir? Me: Check. Cashier: You live on Sesame Street? Me: Um. Yeah. Cashier: Oh really....is Big Bird your neighbor? Me: No. But I do live nextdoor to an Air Force pilot. Cashier: Uh-huh. And I suppose his name is Bert? Me: Jim, actually. Store Manager: Is there a problem here? [looks at check] Oh. Sir, do you have cash for this purchase? Me: Um... Store Manager: I see. Well, maybe the Cookie Monster could float you a loan, eh? Me: [heaviest of sighs] Nevermind. I'll go someplace else. Cashier: Be sure to say hello to Elmo for me! And so it went... I swear, I am not making this up. Sesame Street
  21. Different system here in America. The property tax may be higher here but, as I understand it, the income tax is higher in England. Additionally, the government pays for fewer social welfare programs than in the UK. BTW, we are taxed in California by the value of the home, not by the square foot; that would be commercial taxes for a business. In short, you may see a spike in property taxes [largely depending on where you live; not all homes are taxed at the same rate relative to locale], but the trade off would be in the income tax. As an example, if I could somehow move my house to San Diego, Orange or Marin [in NorCal] County, it could be worth $900,000 dollars or more. As it is, it would sell for $350,000 here in the Central part of the state. Ergo, the taxes are far lower.
  22. [ahem] If I may... As the resident Native Californian on this BBS I might be of some service here. First of all, San Diego is mighty pricey as is the San Francisco Bay Area. If you want close access to the California Coast, be prepared to shell out some serious cash. Nothing is a bargain, South state to North state. Now if you don't mind driving some to get to the ocean, I'd suggest taking a look much further inland. And run screaming away from Oceanside unless you like living with military personnel and their families. Murrieta is the same. California is a huge state and there are many lower priced areas to buy a home, but may mean living in the Central part of the state. No ocean, but beautiful mountains. As was already mentioned, find a realtor who knows what he/she is doing and not one so hot for a sale that they will take advantage of you. I've had good luck with Century 21, but there again...ask questions and get to know the realtor's motives. Good luck! FWIW.
  23. Good game last night, I thought. The BoSox are hitting on all cylinders right now, but we see what happens in Coors Feild. Rockies have been known to launch, oh....one or two come-backs there.

  25. It shouldn't. My point went to disgust not to surprise.
