Saw this in yesterday's SF Chronicle: A-Rod Not Upset With Chipper's Comments By TOM WITHERS, AP sports Writer Friday, August 10, 2007 (08-10) 18:30 PDT CLEVELAND (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez understands that the more home runs he hits, the more he'll be scrutinized. Just as Chipper Jones said earlier this week. New York's third baseman, who recently became the youngest player in history to reach 500 career homers, anticipates that if he ever challenges Barry Bonds' record his numbers will also be questioned. "In the era we live in, there's going to be comments," Rodriguez said before the opener of a three-game series with the Indians on Friday. "With great accomplishments come questions." Earlier this week, Atlanta's Jones predicted Rodriguez will be the next player dealing with steroid suspicion, just as Bonds is enduring while passing Hank Aaron as the game's home run king. Jones further said he didn't think Rodriguez was guilty of cheating, but he would face doubters because of baseball's ongoing steroid drama. "He's going to have to answer the questions," Jones said. "And that goes for everybody that approaches the number. It's just so farfetched, the numbers that those guys are putting up. And a lot of it comes from the era that they're playing in." Rodriguez, who hit his major league-leading 37th homer leading off the second, said he had no problem with Jones' comments. "I'm friends with Chipper," he said. "I go back to high school days with him. He didn't say anything out of order. I don't have any issues with him or what he said. He included himself in the conversation." Yankees manager Joe Torre didn't see anything wrong with the observations by Jones that were blown up by New York's tabloids. "I read it and it was nothing like the headline," Torre said. "He said that anybody is going to come under scrutiny, get asked questions. And that is true." Torre said that questions regarding steroid use are going to haunt the game. "People are not going to trust us until we get over this," he said. "We all have to drop the gloves and work together. I think everybody in the game, players, owners, managers, umpires, want it baseball to be on the highest level. Well, we all have to work together to get it there." Gagne is juicing. No way in hell he could throw 72 saves without being on steroids. Then he blew out his arm because the tendons couldn't hold the muscle mass. 'Roid rage is his middle name, fer crissakes. I think we need to call in the Grand Jury for a full-scale shame investigation....sure hope he has an angry ex-girlfriend or a hat size change. That'll seal the deal. Oh, I know! Maybe we can get one of those pretend reporters from the yellow journalism king, Hearst Corporation, to trump up some almost true charges! Yeah...that'll convince 'em! Asterisk, bay-bee. Oh...no wait! Gagne is white. Damn. What was I thinking? Carry on. GoodSpeak, are you saying McGuire is black then??? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hof07/news/story?id=2725461 Old news, Berigan. McGuire and Sosa both got a free pass from the press and from the public. Palmeiri, too. You don't see them getting hounded by the snakes in the media. Apples and oranges, my friend.

Gagne is juicing. No way in hell he could throw 72 saves without being on steroids. Dumbest f-ing thing you've ever written, and that is really saying something. How can a STREAK be dependent on steroid use? Probably the same way you said steroids helped Bonds' HR streak the year he hit 73. Can't have it both ways, big fella.

Does strength help or hurt your control? Hm.

I support my guys...win, lose or draw. I am a fan since childhood. And you're right. The NL West is abysmal....but in spite of that fact: DEATH to dodger Blue!

I gained 53 pounds after I turned 40. My hat size is bigger, too. Wait! I must be on steroids! Sound the alarm! Sound the alarm! Sound the alarm! Goody posts so much because he is on STEROIDS!!! Oh-my-GOD! Is posting on this BBS even valid any more?

He broke the law, Matthew. What does that have to do with Barry Bonds? And who the hell said he was "innocent" or "pure."
-
Tell me Dan...what is "proof" in your world. eh? Ironclad inuendo? Kiss-and-tell journalism? In a court of law, the fact you have a crime does not equal having a witness to that crime OR a criminal to pin it on. I seriously hope you aren't a judge, now...are you? More like a CPA with nothing else to go on but what people tell him and what he sees in the media. Time to turn off that Sean Hannity and put down that Ann Coulter book....the media LIES, Dan. [duh] [*GASP*] Oh, the horror.
-
...nice! to the cheater! m Your proof? Why is this concept so hard to grasp for you guys, anyway? How about the leaked grand jury testimony? Whether it was illegally leaked or not, it's damning. That's pretty solid evidence. So....you're OK with cheating the legal system, but you have a problem with ballplayers cheating with steriods? Hm. Am I the only one here who sees something wrong with that? ONE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER. The fact that this does not penetrate your skull is only one reason why you remain a laughingstock among anyone who reads this thread. A laughingstock without the slightest trace of credibility in your defense of the man you love so deeply. Why...because you say so? Have we heard ALL of the Grand Jury testimony? Do we know ALL of the evidence presented? Have we heard ALL of the defense's position on the leak or their refutation of this testimony? Geez, like you would accept a bill for dinner at the most expensive restaurant in town if they only served you a glass of milk? It is but a drop of water in the comprehensive OCEAN of testimony, credibility and evidential discovery. Dan, buddy...you are the laughingstock on this BBS. One little incongruence and you go off like a cheap firecracker. Give us all a break here once, huh? See the BIG picture...understand how our legal system works. Just once, open your eyes and take those blinders off. Thick-headedness is not a family value. OK? Watergate this ain't. It is a game.

Everyone? Show me the poll. Man-love...WTF? Is this the new baseless catch-phrase when somebody supports a particular athlete? I think A-Rod is a tremendous talent and if he stays healthy, will be the next HR king. I believe Pete Rose needs to be in the HOF. I have always admired Ichiro Suzuki and his ability to get hits. I have nothing but admiration for Cal Ripken's success in the bigs. Carl Yazstremski was the greatest clutch hitter of all time. I've rooted for Mookie Wilson, Sammy Sosa, Roger Maris, Jim Fregosi, Bobby Grich, Doug DeCinces, Rollie Fingers, Dan Eckersley, Joe Rudy, Jimmy Piersal, Tony Gwynn, Boog Powell, Yogi Berra and the list goes on and on and on dating clear back to the early 60s and my first remembrances of baseball. Do you think it as all possible that with the current topicality of Bonds and the HR record and the fact everybody is talking about it usurps the fact he plays for my favorite team just might have something at all to do with my mentioning his name so often? I mean...duh. Maybe you need to rephrase the question, eh? There is a big giant clue here.

Help My Wife and I Eat Better and Lose Weight
Tim McG replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Cut down on sodas [high in sodium...even the diet sodas]. Ramp back the sugar intake. Eat less bread, pasta, rice or carbs in general. Eat beef once a week and sub with poultry or fish. Cut down the portion size. Have dinner earlier in the day and/or make lunch a bigger meal than dinner. Drink tons of H2O. Exercise, vigorously, at least three times a week to maintain your weight; four+ times to lose more weight. At 52, my metabolism as slowed to a crawl through quicksand, but this keeps my weight manageable. -

I think this guy may have a little more knowledge than you on the subject. Why anything needs to be proved to you...I'm not sure. Whether or not you believe he took steroids has no effect on whether he did or didn't. m~ You still need proof. Because a guy plays baseball does not make him an expert witness on steroid use...by anyone. Geez, I'm sure glad none of you guys do police detective work. We'd be arresting people for crimes they could have committed and your eyewitness would be somebody who said they look like they possibly might be a criminal.

And you know the hell of it is...? I had tickets for tonight's game, but gave them to a friend because I had to attend a seminar for my job today. Go figure.

#756! The best there is...ever.
-
Hm. And Dan insists they booed Bonds in Petco Park when he hit #755 [in an empty stadium] and when he took the field afterward. Didn't happen. The sports media jackals just plain lied. Now who are you going to believe: Sheffeld trying to cover his ass or Dan [you know, the guy who flies off the handle at every challenge, no matter how insignificant, to his "authority"] with a blind ax to grind or the reality of what really happened? Time to get with it. Consider the source.
-
I would say it's doubtful that he is currently on steroids. Dan is the man with the stat book, he can help you out. m Uh-huh. Let me remind that Dan also confuses loud cheering and photograph taking by rival ballpark fans with [strange as it may seem] booing. He cannot tell the difference between what actually happened [i watched the game] and what the lying media jackals say. They said he was booed and that the ballpark was empty. Both are bald faced lies. Now I suggest you think about that before you buy into anything he says, OK? Just sayin'.

Out my way it's cooled down to a nice way cool 95 degrees. I was thinking of taking out the sweaters.

Hard to dispute...yeah. Right on. PROVE it to me.
