****EMERGENCY WARNE MARSH POST*****
Don Brown replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
Warne's son mentions that his great aunt was the silent film actress Mae Marsh. Her full name was Mae Warne Marsh. -
Just learned that jazz photographer and graphic artist Burt Goldblatt died August 30th.

My goodness, only 51, Lon? You're still a young man. It's the music that does it you know. Why I'll turn 74 in November but I still feel just 17. It was 1949 when I first discovered jazz and blues and I might as well have discovered the fountain of youth. You'll never grow old as long as you keep listening my friend. A very happy birthday to you.

WD40 takes that crap right off, neat as a whistle, with no damage to the jewel box.

After a year-long hiatus the Baldwin Street Music label will begin producing new CDs this fall. A new company, Ted Ono Productions, will take over the Baldwin Street Music label effective July 1, 2006. Until June 20th (under the name of David Baldwin Productions) David and Ted will be offering the biggest sale in the ten-year history of their label. If you've been putting off purchasing any Baldwin Street CDs, now's the time to take advantage of this special opportunity. Some items will be going out of print following this sale period. The remaining titles will go back to $16.00 (including postage) once Ted Ono takes over the entire operation. Between now and June 20th each single Baldwin Street CD will cost $11.75 (postage included). Two CD sets will cost $17.75. If you purchase ten CDs the cost will be $100.00. All prices are in US dollars for US residents. For further information as well as a complete list of all titles currently available contact Ted at www.tedono.com.

Yes, KH1958, I do have the Uptown CD. And, yes, contemporaryladySF, I worked for the CBC from 1957 to 1989 when I took early retirement.

Somewhere in the CBC Montreal archives there may still be a half hour kinescope recording of Bird together with Brew Moore and three Montreal musicians. I watched it here in Toronto a couple of weeks after it had been broadcast live in Montreal. Back in those days a kinescope print of live shows would often be sent to other Canadian cities for re-broadcast. Before I retired (I worked for the CBC for 32 years) I tried to track the recording down but with no luck. It may well have been destroyed or lost.

Your posters and photos
Don Brown replied to HolyStitt's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
In my listening room I have an original Bill Gottlieb photo that he signed and sent me after I'd interviewed him on CJRT's "The Jazz Scene". It's that famous shot of Charlie Parker and Miles Davis with Max Roach in the background. I also have thirteen Paul Hoeffler originals: two Ellingtons, a Lester Young, a Billie Holiday, a Roy Eldridge, a Coleman Hawkins, two Art Blakeys, a Charles Mingus, a Sonny Rolllins, an Eric Dolphy, a Jimmy Rushing, and a Count Basie together with Lester Young, all black and white, as well as a large color shot of Buddy Tate. There's also a handsome poster with a gorgeous color drawing of Illinois Jacquet copied from a late 1940s photograph. Then there's the large Francis Wolf print of John Coltrane and, finally, Art Kane's Great Day in Harlem reproduction. -
Finally!

Best way to remove adhesive from that horrid

The best thing is WD40. Takes off the goo extremely easily and doesn't affect the jewel case in any way. -
Happy Birthday, Christiern
Don Brown replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
All the best, Chris. Every morning I search out your postings. As a neighbor to the north I marvel at what is currently going on in your adopted country. With any luck the whole nasty mess will come to a head very soon. Now that would be a real birthday present! -
who shares your birth day
Don Brown replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Hoagy Carmichael and Boris Karloff were both born November 22nd. And, sadly, my 31st birthday happened to be the day John Kennedy was assassinated and Aldous Huxley died. -
What’s some of greatest discoveries in jazz?
Don Brown replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Still waiting for airchecks of the Earl Hines orchestra with Charlie Parker on tenor. Surely someone must have documented the Hines band during the recording ban. -
Jeez, as if the tape strips on CDs aren't bad enough. there are still some DVDs being manufactured with tape strips on three sides of the case. What are the cretins who make these things thinking?
