I can't remember whether it was Wilisau or Nyon that really blew me away. The other was merely very good. What a treat it was to see Schweizer & Favre last weekend. Has Tchicai completely given up alto? The few times I saw him over the past 15 years he played tenor. Right now I'm listening to the wonderful 1968 unreleased Hamburg session by Abdullah Ibrahim with Tchicai, Cherry, Barbieri, Ntshoko and Barre Phillips.

  11. Amazing--you've just described every jazz bbs on the planet. But, no, people don't "shut out" jazz because of annoying jazz fans, they don't listen because they don't like it or don't like it enough. It ain't rocket science.

  21. My guess is that any subject that's in Britannica will have a well researched and community vetted Wikipedia entry that's just fine. I think the dangers of shoddy work or possible misinformation on Wikipedia generally come in the obscure entries that aren't well reviewed by other contributors. http://news.cnet.com/2100-1038_3-5997332.html

Angry Squire was in Chelsea, 7th Ave. & 23rd. I gigged there once with Joel Forrester & Dave Hofstra shortly before they closed. Pianist Alan Kamen did the bookings toward the end. It was a bit of a dive, but Dakota Staton and Jaki Byard often performed there.

  24. I'd guess the famous 1911 edition would fetch a nice price in good condition. It is available online for free. http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Main_Page as well as on Project Gutenberg.
  25. Even if Bud doesn't solo, that's an odd oversight.
