    Jorge Ben

That's great to hear, Late. Do you happen to know if Dylan ever sued for Forever Young? Stewert knows no shame.
  2. I haven't been in much of a mood to talk about baseball lately. (If you recall which team I'm a fan of, and you follow the standings, you'll realize why.)

    Jorge Ben

Didn't Rod Stewert steal the melody for "If You Think I'm Sexy" from the Jorge Ben/ Gilberto Gil record? BTW, if you're digging Ben, see if you can track down the first Gil record. It was recently available as a mid-price Japanese reissue. It's a bit of a different trip from that Ben record you're listening to (more aggressive), but people tend to like one if they like the other.
  4. That's right - Money Jungle was a Capitol album reissued on BN, right?
  5. Good luck to you. I'm going to be trying the same thing. $700 per seat is too rich for me at this point.
  6. Ditto Duke Ellington.
  7. Glad to see I'm no longer the only one who voted for Buck! It was a tough choice, but I felt I owed him the vote for all the great listening I've gotten out of his Mosaic.
  8. You've just made the choice a LOT harder. IMO, it's between Hodges and JJ now. I'm sorry, in your position I'd probably have to flip a coin. The good news is you don't lose either way. Edit to add: I don't know if you "need" that much more JJ, but I wouldn't want to be without it. I don't know how popular of an opinion this is, but I like the JJ box at least as much as Eminent 1 and 2 and probably more. If you're shorter on Hodges than you are on JJ, maybe that tips the scales slightly in Hodges' direction.
  9. Yep. For that matter, I paid quite a lot more than I expected for our tix to Jamaica, and we shopped around a lot. They were about $250 more EACH than last year at this time.
  10. One more time, with feeling.
  11. Let me know if you find any. A good friend is getting married in Antwerp 8/2 and I haven't been able to find a ticket to Brussels, Paris, London, Antwerp, or Frankfurt for under $680 that week. And those $680 tickets are really bad flights.
  12. Thanks conn500. I'm sure her parents have a lot planned out for us, but it's always nice having a second opinion . I think we'll definately spend some time in Kingston. Evidently her father knows almost everyone in Jamaica (or at least a direct relative of almost everyone). He certainly seems to know nearly everyone in NYC - whenever I walk down the street with him it seems like we get stopped at least once per block!
  13. The first two discs of the Jones set are incredible, IMO, especially the stuff with Garrison. But it is a bit hit and miss the rest of the way.
  14. I'm leaving for Jamaica Friday morning. I'll be there for a little over a week. I'm pretty excited, as I haven't been outside of Manhattan in about a year (not even to go to Brooklyn!). If you've been there before and have any suggestions of places to see, please let me know!
  15. And I thought the OTHER thread was some wierd shit...
  16. After having been away from the cyber world for about 24 hours, I have to say this is some pretty wierd shit.
  17. I didn't realize it was a ficitional character! I've been thinking a little about The Matrix. I'll get back to you about this tomorrow. I'm touch typing while watching Metropolis on TCM.
  18. Who was the guitarist that Penn was playing in that film? I always forget. He was a fairly obscure player, no?
  19. Okay, I voted for JJ, and Teagarden obviously deserves votes as well, but so does Kai Winding! Where is the Kai contingency?
  20. Ouch! This is a really tough one! How am I supposed to choose between Charlie Christian and Django? Okay - I'm going with Django.
  21. As an aside, Hosea Taylor was a decent defensive end on the Indianapolis Colts in the early 80s. I think we can safely assume we're dealing with a "he" here. EDIT: Mike, our posts crossed up.
  22. Yes, in particular the revelation re: the oracle. I'll get back to you about the French guy. It's a little too late for me to think about it right now.
  23. Good point. I'm going to stick with my "not getting the hopes up too high" strategy, though. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than let down.
  24. For me, watching this movie was (for the most part) like watching someone else play a video game (with an exceptionally cheesy soundtrack). The first movie was a somewhat interesting idea that opened the door to a lot of (at the time) novel fight scenes, but the concept was first and the fight scenes were just a by-product. In Reloaded, the fight scenes take center stage and the concept seems nearly forgotten for much of the movie. That being said, the one major plot twist was very inventive and unexpected.
  25. I could, but I don't see the point. I will, however, say that I'd rather listen to anything from before 1980 than after.
