    FREDDIE IS 67!

such a treasure chest of material by freddie as leader and sideman, just finished listening to his as usual beautiful work on "Blues And The Abstract Truth" by Oliver Nelson...................
  2. great hard bop trumpet player, he lost me after "a new perspective".............
  3. its useless to speculate on what an artist would have done, no one can predict such things.................
  4. another favorite artist question.........what a waste of time
  5. "Jazzbrothers" by Howard McGhee is a VERY nice set............
  6. I should have mentioned that I have ALL of his non-monk stuff as leader and sideman. One of my favorites as a sideman is "Just Wailin'" by Herbie Mann, check that one out................
  7. Takin' Off because of Dexter Gordon.........
  8. Any Charlie Rouse fans out there besides myself? I've never heard anyone with his percussive, staccato(spelling) style of soloing. What do you believe is his best work with Monk.........
  9. saw joey defrancesco and moody(jimmy smith was supposed to be there but passed away a couple of days earlier)at Yoshi's in oakland a couple of months ago. moody, one of the few living masters and a great comic story teller.........
  10. can't remove his valves but can remove him from the list of elite, he can drive an automatic, why can't he learn to drive a stick...............
  11. cannon-addict.......you have a lot of nerve trying to take something away from two of the great jazz masters(Dex&Jackie(who is still alive) and praising the noise that dolphy and coleman used to make. it may not have been noise then but definitly is today. Bop and Hard Bop will never grow old because it is a child of the blues. "Blusenik" by Jackie is one of my all time favorites. I'll take Jackie and LTD over Coleman and Dolphy any day...........mrjazzman

  13. I have no respect for valve trombonists, take Brookmeyer off the list. If j. j.
  14. if you're a Tina Brooks completist, you'll want to get the milburn set........
  15. if you buy something that is readily available, you're ok. if its out of print, hard to find.......DON'T DEAL WITH CASACAIMAN, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. FOR THE OOP/HARD TO FIND, THEY ARE THE WORST SELLERS ON HALF/AMAZON........
  16. forget ebay, make a deal with me for the blue mitchell mosaic..........

saw ravi with mccoy tyner group at yoshi's. if he didn't have the last name i don't think he'd get any more attention than the rest of his contemporaries...........
  23. Ms. Quinn states that Milt Hinton played in Cab Calloway's band with Dizzy Gillespie. the other two trumpets in the section were Mario Bauza and my Grandfather Lamar Wright Sr..........
