A variation on the Desert Island Discs Theme; If your collection of recordings was destroyed, which would be the first ten you'd want to replace?
My choices:
Mingus Ah Um
Louis: Complete Hot 5's and 7's
Billie: Lady Day
Cecil: Looking Ahead
Bird: Complete Savoy Studio Recordings
Complete Port of Harlem Jazzmen
Ornette: Golden Circle Vol. 1
Monk's Music
Rev. Robert Wilkins - Piedmont LP
The Best of Muddy Waters
I wasn't surprised at what I chose, except for what I left out - no Ellington, Trane (except with Monk), Rolliins, Pres (except with Billie), Miles, Bud, Ayler, and others, including some rarities by lesser known musicians. But these are the first ten I'd want to replace.
And, hey, perhaps no one wants to thinks about replacing their collection. I just thought it might be an interesting subject.
