  1. Sad News. I heard Sunny Murray lead a nonet in early 1966 - one of the first two times I heard free music played live. Quite an experience. Thanks for everything you gave to us, Mr. Murray.
  2. I've had this one for 50 years or so, and still listen to it every once in a while as an enjoyable oddity.
  3. If that obituary is indeed BruceW's, I'm truly sorry that he has passed. I'll miss him as an important member of our community and a good sharing person.
  4. Ornette! on LP was the first time I heard Ornette's music. It was a listening changing experience.
  5. Interesting stuff. Thanks, Jeff.

  10. Heard him with the Hi Rhythm Section in the late 80's - a great night. Always felt that the Eagles ripped off the title song when they did "Life in the Fast Lane".
  11. Billy Bauer: Anthology (Interplay)
  12. I feel that too many people give short shrift to Prestige. (I should say that I don't think that you're one of those people.) Whatever some musicians' feelings about it as a "junkie label", Prestige did record Eric Dolphy prolifically as a leader before any other label did, Prestige also recorded Steve Lacy, Don Ellis, Walt Dickerson (again, somewhat prolifically), and, just as importantly, Prestige recorded swing era veterans when no one else was doing so. Buck Clayton, Buddy Tate, Tiny Grimes, Shorty Baker & Doc Cheatham, Claude Hopkins, Al Casey, and Taft Jordan all made very good records for Prestige. You won't find any of those names on Blue Note or Riverside. Whatever faults there may have been, Prestige also deserves its due.

  14. Cattin' with Coltrane and Quinichette
  15. Whatever players Hue Jackson has been given to work with, the worst coach in the world could probably go 1 and 27. As S1 said, "How does he keep his job ?? "
  16. Blues Guitar Blasters
  17. I guess we have different views. To me, if a guy pitched as badly as Sabathia did from 2013 to 2016, he should have been ashamed to collect his $25 mil. a year paycheck and, if he had any class, would have retired when he went into alcohol rehab.
  18. Howard McGhee: That Bop Thing (Bethlehem/Affinity)
  19. I Like Ike - The Best of Ike Turner (Rhino)

  21. Don't want to get into an argument, David, but 4 years - 2013 - 2016 - with a record of 32 wins and 39 losses when he was being paid $!00 million, doesn't generally work out for me. Of course, this year, when his contract is ending, he goes 14 and 5. Any surprise there? Not to me.
