  1. The Best of Little Walter (Chess/P-Vine)
  2. John Lee Hooker: Original Folk Blues (Ace)
  3. Don't have that set, but his Blue Star recordings on electric are exactly what you say.
  4. Buddy Tate: Jumping on the West Coast An old favorite from the days when I had the LP. Especially enjoyed hearing "The Things You Done for Me Baby" again today.
  5. Thanks for posting that, Pete. Great thoughts and reminiscences.
  6. Cecil Taylor Booker T & the MGs MG
  7. I like it also. Very good Don Joseph, and even though I wish that Chuck Wayne had played some slightly more extended solos, I like his playing too.
  8. Guitar Gable with King Karl: Cool Calm Collected (Flyright)
  9. Steppin' with the World Saxophone Quartet
  10. B.B. King: Rock Me Baby
  11. Charlie Feathers: All Tore Up! (Zu-Zazz)
  12. It's strange to revisit this thread that I began almost 14 years ago and had forgotten about. In the meantime (probably 8 or 9 years ago). I got rid of my baseball books, with the exception of a handful, when I grew disgusted with the juicing and other things that had happened. I don't think that I still have any of the books that I mentioned in this thread.
  13. Not sure, but he may have been the father of the now active drummer, Ali Jackson. https://www.allmusic.com/artist/ali-muhammed-jackson-mn0000003424/biography https://www.revolvy.com/main/index.php?s=Ali%20Jackson%20(jazz%20drummer
  14. Thanks for posting that photo! Joe Torre had mellowed by the time he was managing the Yankees, but after I read that passage to my wife, she always referred to him humorously as "the brooding Bedouin".
  15. Sonny Rollins Trio: St Thomas
  16. Cool Playing Blues (Relic)
  17. I recall seeing that group on a late night program on WNET in NY, probably in 1965. I wonder if a tape of that is still in existence. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that it's not.
  18. Jimmy Lyons - Andrew Cyrille: Burnt Offering (Black Saint)
  19. Buddy Tate: Groovin' with Tate
  20. Paul Desmond (Artists House) Whenever I listen to this, I make sure I read Nat Hentoff's heartfelt remembrance of Paul Desmond in the booklet.
  21. Eddie Condon: The Liederkranz Sessions
  22. Some of these responses say more about the responders than they do about the issue(s).
  23. I wonder what that panel discussion was like. I'd have enjoyed hearing Cecil and Martin Williams - might have been somewhat more of a confrontation than a discussion. But perhaps not.
  24. Negro Prison Blues and Songs (Legacy International)
