My college library had a copy, so I read it back then. If I find the time, I'll have to try and reread it in the present time to see how it strikes me today.

I know very little about the man other than what I've read - probably not very trustworthy stuff. I think that if he were just interested in making a lot of money, he would have just put it up for auction at Sotheby's or the like and made more. It's obvious that he wanted to keep the parts of his archives together and in a place where they'll be respected. That said, he still was paid a lot of money.

I doubt that he needs the money. It seems that he wanted the collection to go to the right place.

I thought about getting this, but I decided that, as much as I love his music, I already have plenty of Django in my collection. Reading your comments makes me feel as if I made the right choice.

Some years ago, I was in touch with the writer Paule Marshall, who dedicated her novel, The Fisher King, "For the memory of: my cousin, Sonny Clement, baritone sax; Earl Griffith, vibes; Ernie Henry, alto sax; And especially for Neats and Lesley" I wrote to Ms. Marshall about the dedication and she replied that Earl Griffith and Ernie Henry were childhood friends. I can't find her letter right now, but I believe that she wrote that Earl Griffith died as a result of a subway fall.
