  1. Thanks for posting those, Michael. Vanguard posters and those from other clubs and concerts might be a good idea for a book, if enough have been preserved.
  2. Slim Harpo Harpo Marx Gabby Hayes
  3. Helen Kane Max Fleischer Mae Questel
  4. James Worthy Mary Worth William Merritt Chase
  5. Another slice of sleaze bites the dust.
  6. Happy Birthday, Bruce! Hope all's well.
  7. Does anyone expect anything (except maybe garbage) from the Grammys?
  8. Air: Air Lore (Arista Novus) I've had a hard time connecting with this record since it was released. Heard more things tonight, so perhaps there's a chance for the two of us. Fred Hopkins was a magnificent bass player.
  9. I just read Dylan's speech and he's got his opinions and that's fine. I don't have to agree with everything he said. Moms has his opinions and I don't have to agree with everything he says. It does interest me that someone who calls himself "MomsMobley" has a problem with someone calling himself "Bob Dylan".
  10. Texas Rhythm and Blues (Ace) Cal Green's blistering guitar is all over side one of this one.
  11. My old granddaddy once told me, "Son, you can't make one person smaller by trying to make other people bigger."
  12. Happy Birthday, Michael!
  13. Not many Caucasian leaders at BN - JR Moterose, Sheila Jordan, and Gil Melle come to my mind.
  14. Johnny Wick's Swinging Ozarks - Not one of Delmark's most effective covers.
  15. Just listened to Johnny Wick's Swinging Ozarks, which would have made a good name for a western swing band. However, they were a sax/piano/bass/drums quartet backing a blues singer, Preacher Stephens, who was probably the only blues singer who doubled on tuba - and did a pretty fair job of it too.
  16. Johnny Wick's Swinging Ozarks: Johnny Jack Boogie (United/Pearl) Hadn't listened to this in maybe 25 years. Listened today and I couldn't understand why. It's a wonderful record - a quartet w. alto, piano, bass, and drums backing a tuba playing blues singer, Preacher Stephens. Add Remo Biondi playing bluesy violin on a couple of tracks and it's something to hear.
  17. The Butt Sisters Hillary Duff Fannie Mae
  18. Looks like Herb Alpert sat in for him on that cover photo.
