  10. I'm a little surprised they would feel like recording Christmas songs in the middle of July, but who knows? 'Soulmates' is a wonderfull date, and Rouse had a top class outfit for it. Hey, Mel Torme and Bob Wells wrote the Christmas song on a hot summer day. You can't wait for the cold weather if you want to get the music out for the Christmas season.

  14. For many years, I listened to BAI. Over time, it got crazier and uninteresting and I just gave up. Maybe they should call it Radio Unlistenable and close up shop. If they did, I doubt that many people would care.
  15. Apologies for a double quote. I understand this totally. You are expressing the very particular experience you had with a particular recording at a particular point in your musical exploration. We all experience music differently - different recordings, different contexts etc. The issue I have with the 'versions' bun fights is that the 'for me' is so often left out. When someone makes a post, I assume that it's their opinion - unless it's a discographical fact or something similar. It would be redundant for each post to include something like "for me" in each post. Can't recall seeing "for me" in many of the opinions in your posts. I actually try very hard to express my preferences as subjective. I strongly believe that our musical preferences are very personal and derived from a very individual line of development. Many posts here don't even try. Schnabel is the dog's bollocks rather than I rather like Schnabel's way of doing things. Think you're beating a dead horse - or a dead pianist. If someone says Schnabel is their favorite playing a certain composer, that's all it means. At least that's how I take it. If I trust that poster's taste, I probably would take the post into consideration. Nothing more, nothing less. I've been led to some good music that way and sometimes to some music that didn't suit my tastes. For me, and I hope for some others here, that's how recommendations work. I think you have a problem with a certain poster and you carry those problems to an extreme. Perhaps I'm wrong about that.

  19. I believe they are - but I'm no expert. I'd rather guess it's PD stuff? Or would it have to have been previously released for being PD? The Bird/Diz Town Hall was copied in Spain as soon as it was out, and in that very case they couldn't to a vinyl rip themselves, no way ... not sure how the laws work with previously unissued material that is old enough to be PD. It probably comes down to that whatever you can get away with is legal.

  22. Anyone know if the Marshmallow releases are legit?
  23. ... or those with one defective speaker ... But seriously, I think most mono recordings from the 1950's sound great, but those Columbia engineers made great stereo sound. They're trying to milk the collectors to the last drop. And they appear to be successful. They wouldn't go on releasing Miles sets if they weren't. The folks at Sony are at least imaginative, to come up with all of these variations of the same material. Too bad they aren't imaginative enough to record worthwhile new music and sell it.

  25. Don't have Impressions, but I have several other Impulde Speakers Corner issues - Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson, Art Blakey - and the sound and is fine on those. As it should be, considering the price.
