  1. Previous discussion:
  2. John Coltrane: A Love Supreme (Impulse - stereo, black and orange label)
  3. The photo was listed on a website which identified it as Veronica Hamel. Checking properties, it does come up as Bo Derek. My apologies to Ms. Hamel and her fans. Here's another photo which is supposed to be Veronica Hamel. Not quite as bad a plastic surgery job, but still much the same.
  4. Thought of another - Mingus' Oh Yeah album. I love most of Mingus' music, but this one escapes me.
  5. Knotty Vision (Nighthawk)
  6. My feelings too, if that helps in any way.
  7. Charles Mingus: Pithecanthropus Erectus (Atlantic Japan)
  8. Here's a relatively recent photo of Veronica Hamel. I don't understand this "youthful forever" thing. If we live long enough, we'll all get old. Why have surgery that makes you look like a humanoid?
  9. Try and let your hopes outweigh your fears, even if it's difficult. And a belated Happy Birthday!
  10. Happy Birthday, zen!
  11. Sorry to read that you've lost a friend, Jeff.
  12. Hope it's a great birthday!
  13. Dave Friesen Chill Wills Don Sleet
  14. Mickey Rivers Curt Flood Delta Burke
  15. Roswell Rudd/Hans Dulfer/Arjen Gorter/Martin Van Duynhoven: Maine (BVHAAST)
  16. I have no idea if he originated all of them, but a couple of web sites give him credit. If Satchell were around today, he might say "Trust the internet at your own risk."
  17. I don't know how Steve Lacy got thrown into the mix. But if you want to go there, I'll take Lacy's Monk over Nelson's Monk hands down, every time, any time. If you hear something worthwhile in the Monk/Nelson album, happy listening. Each of us have our own tastes.
  18. Satchell Paige Suitcase Simpson Bags
  19. Charlie Parker: Summit Meeting at Birdland (Columbia)
  20. I was reading a post by Bev where he wrote about "the average listener" and was reminded of a quote attributed to Satchel Paige: "Ain’t no man can avoid being born average, but there ain’t no man got to be common." I looked up Satchel Paige quotes and found some I was familiar with and some I wasn't: "Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching." "Money and women. They're two of the strongest things in the world. The things you do for a woman you wouldn't do for anything else. Same with money." "Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines." "The only change is that baseball has turned Paige from a second class citizen to a second class immortal." "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?" "Just take the ball and throw it where you want to. Throw strikes. Home plate don’t move." "If a man can beat you, walk him." "I never rush myself. See, they can't start the game without me." Satch was a wise man.
  21. Porky Pig Lambchop Br'er Rabiit
  22. Still sounds like crap to me. Hack orchestrations that have little or nothing to do with Monk's music. The only positive thing that came from listening to this was that I was reminded to never listen again.
  23. Billy Brimfield Panama Francis DC "Hat" Bowler (Pascor & Dalziel)
  24. Birth of the Cool. Then I heard the RVG version and it started to come alive for me. Though I'm still not totally there yet.
