  1. Thanks for posting that, aloc. A good friend of mine and I drive to Westport at least a couple of times a year and meet at Sally's to hang out, talk music, listen to some of Sally's stories, and, of course, pick up a few recordings. It's a great place and Sally is a wonderful person.

  4. Kid Thomas (the blues harp one) may well have had the best pompador conk on the planet.
  5. Was doing a Steve Lacy search and came across this post. And how cool (and unselfish) for a little-known musician doing his debut album to let the two musicians of West Indian background (Kelly and Dennis Charles) to take the only solos on the West Indian tune on the date.

  12. Wikipedia (assuming it can be trusted) says that Ken Singleton is "the father of former minor league outfielder Justin Singleton." No mention of Jonathan.

  15. The original cover looks more contemporary to me. The newer cover looks more 50's-ish - Sputnik was launched right around the time the recording was made.,
  16. Thanks. My CD has the unoriginal cover - not that it matters that much to me. But good to see the original cover.
  17. I see top and bottom - not right and left, so I still don't know.
  18. A great player, but the involvement in the double murder still bothers me a great deal Wondered if anyone else besides myself was bothered by that.
  19. Happy Birthday, Clifford!
  20. Encyclopedia of Jazz and Wikipedia both give Ornette's birthday as March 19. John Litwiler, in Ornette: A Harmelodic Life, says that "Most references give his birthdate as March 19, 1930, whilehis sister, Truvenza Coleman Leach, gives it as March 9, 1931." I was just going with GA, who's da birthday man.
