  1. My Name Is Albert Ayler
  2. Bunk Johnson: The King of the Blues (American Music)
  3. Jeff turned me on to Bunk Johnson's music. (I had listened to him on four of the sides with Sidney Bechet, but I have to admit that most of my attention was drawn to Bechet. Bechet had a way of doing that.) The things that grabbed me when I finally heard Bunk Johnson were the purity of his sound and the strength of his playing. I didn't expect either the latter the former or the latter. A lesson that I hope I've learned: Don't have expectations when I'm unfamiliar with a musician's playing.
  4. Elmo Hope: Trio & Quintet
  5. An article about, and an exhibition and book devoted to Fred W, McDarrah, whose photographs appeared in The Village Voice for 50 years: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/06/arts/design/fred-mcdarrah-photographs-village-voice.html
  6. Don't have this one, but what I hear on YouTube sounds really fine.
  7. Roberto Torres: El Rey del Montuno (SAR)
  8. More Giuseppi Logan (ESP)
  9. Alex Hill: Ain't It Nice? 1928-1934 (Timeless) A tip of the cap to Chuck for hipping me to this one.
  10. Blowing In from Chicago
  11. Yes. Another good one.
  12. Good one! Just listened to it recently. Another goodie!
  13. I was a reader and subscriber back in the days of Hentoff, Sarris, etc. It was interesting back then. Hadn't looked at it in print or online in 25 years. Everything (and everyone) passes.
  14. I don't have one favorite, but I've enjoyed listening to these two over the years:
  15. Dave Brubeck - Paul Desmond
  16. New Jersey Burners (Krazy Kat)
  17. Wes: Full House
  18. Lum Guffin: Walking Victrola (Flyright)
  19. If Tampa Bay plays .500 ball over the rest of the season and ends up 12 games over .500, Kevin Cash would get my vote (if I had one) for Al manager of the year. The front office traded away (or let go) most of their power in the off season and traded their no. 2 starter, Chris Archer, during the season (though he hadn't done much this year), so Cash hasn't had a lot to work with, with the exception of Blake Snell.
  20. Happy Birthday!
  21. Sonny Boy Williamson: Goin' In Your Direction (Trumpet)
  22. Cuban Originals - Orchesta Aragon
  23. Rooster Crowed for Day - The Legendary Jay Miller Sessions Volume 3 (Flyright)
