  2. Nothing at all wrong with enthusiasm - life wouldn't be worth living without it. For myself though, sometimes the enthusiasm of collecting overwhelms my listening. It can be difficult to keep both of those things in some sort of balance and perspective.

  4. I can't speak for Chuck - he speaks very well for himself - but while it may be human nature to become exited when a trove like this is uncovered - have to admit that I was one who fell into that category - it also may behoove some of us to relisten more carefully to what is already available. I started doing that this morning, and I thank Chuck for giving me the reminder and impetus to do that.

  7. I like William Parker, but the organ on the clips sounds kind of roller rinkish to me.
  8. Anyone who's into volume rather than music deserves to lose their hearing.
  9. Lorraine Geller was mentioned back when - just thought I'd mention her again. She could play. And whatever opinions some might have about singers, Billie's singing sounded more like a jazz musician than many jazz musicians' playing does.

  11. Dodds Bechet Pres Pee Wee (Russell) From some of the posts I've read, I have some listening and relistening to do. That's what I love most about this place.
  12. Thanks for posting the Roswell photograph, Allen. When was it taken?
  13. It would certainly be wonderful if something could be worked out so that Mosaic could release this music. Here's hoping
  14. Jean-Jacques Sempe: Displays of Affection Actually mostly looking along with some reading. Sempe's drawings never fail to bring a smile, a chuckle, or a laugh when I look at them.
  15. Lee Konitz (Prestige Japan) - 1949/50 sessions
  16. One hit made Bobby Thompson immortal in the world of baseball, and perhaps beyond. Someone, can't remember who, said that people who are old enough remember where they were when Bobby Thompson hit the shot heard 'round the world and when JFK was assasinated. Perhaps that's a bit of a reach, but perhaps not.

  20. Great news! Let's hope that this music can find its way an appreciative audience.
  21. Thanks for posting, Larry. I can read and hear that.
  22. I thought that Ellington was just another big band leader when I was in my mid teen age years. Then, in 1964, iirc, I bought the first volume of The Ellington Era on Columbia and learned that I was wrong. A life changing discovery.
