  1. Listening to this right now, My Momma Pinned a Rose on Me by Mary Lou Williams, released last Tuesday. Sounds so nice and crisp and clear. Has an added 6 minute plus track not released before! No reason not to get this one. Better than my lp copy sounds. Her touch and her use of dynamics are really showcased here. Ringing resonant piano blues!
  2. Nice point.
  3. Yes, I think that anonymity of Evans electric piano signature comes from his touch. The Rhodes and the Wurly from my experience really need prodding to get a response that would be signature-generating. A harder hitting, more percussive touch yields more identifiable "signatures." I love those keyboards. I wish I still had my old Wurlitzer!
  4. Mine is the wonderful photo of Louis Armstrong in his living room that Chris A created for me on our birthday!
  5. I actually think the lps sound better than the disc til we get a remaster, I spun them recently and I have the disc too. I really like the way he interpreted the songs of others. . . just unique and with so much feeling (well, so many different feelings). The "home-iness" of it, the sort of feeling that it was recorded in friendship and good times. And the musicians on there are top notch! I'm going to listen to it again soon!
  6. Self-Portrait was one of my first ones too, and remains a favorite!
  7. I wish I could go back in time to the year plus I owned a 1964 Alfa Romeo 1600 Spyder!
  8. Yes, it's very good. The man really impressed me with Mingus.
  9. I think they'll be at their same addrese in 20 years.
  10. Rick is a top notch business person, and I've had nothing but satisfaction from purchases at Red Trumpet. Here's hoping that Red Trumpet has years and years of success.
  11. He looks more and more like PKD every day!
  12. What was I thinking. It's another Spanish outfit that is new to me. . . "Argo/Gambit". . .
  13. These are good lps. I guess this is a Lonehill Jazz release?
  14. Odell had a band that did several (three?) lps on Argo or Cadet. . . . "Odell Brown and the Organizers." I think their analysis of his work as being reminiscent of the best of the Prestige organ jazz sides is pretty on the mark!

  16. Yes indeed Tj, that's one great ABC-Paramount pairing! And those two lps with Jackson. . . wow. . . . Great stuff!
  17. Ask RDK how many Dylan discs he has. . . .
