jazzbo replied to JSngry's topic in Recommendations
I'm sure the interview material is great. . . . But I'm saving my 25 dollars for now as I have the music! -

In my opinion. . .these are even. . . stronger. . . than the Burning Spirits material! -
Sonny Simmons - THE COMPLETE ESP-DISK RECORDINGS

I haven't sprung for this as I have the two XYZ cds. . .and I really enjoy them. . . but my experience with the Frank Wright "interview" bits led me to believe I could save 25 bucks and not buy this new Simmons. . . . I really DO enjoy this music though. Time to dig them out and spin! (Or rather. . . I wish there WERE time to revisit all I want to this weekend!) -
Miles Nominated For Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame
jazzbo replied to Sundog's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Miles is already Main Mojo Maker in the Dark Fusion Hall of Fame. That blows all the other accolades and honors away! -
Yes, I've preordered the Dylan and the Legion of Mary discs. . . !

Wow. www.jerrygarcia.com has lots of new info. New DVD of the Garcia Band at Shoreline (I'm not collecting music DVDs but looks nice!) Upcoming this week is the first of the Legion of Mary releases (with exclusive third disc) AND coming next month is a two cd set (with an exclusive third disc) of "Garcia Plays Dylan" which looks nice! http://www.jerrygarciastore.com/dylancollectedart/

Thanks for joining us! Welcome, from one Lady Lover to another!

That IS a fine horn!

Yeah the General stuff is really good. I think Trane Monk may be best served with the JSPs or the single RCA disc as a "tryout". . . . We KNOW he likes horns!

Amen. Not unusual for Austin the last few years, just brutal! -

Well, currently there are about 12 gallons of distilled water in the house, kept on hand because of the ten gallon salt water fish tank we have. . . . We buy about 15 at a time because we don't have a car so we get these in a cab every two months or so. Here's hoping that this is not as bad a storm as it possibly could be. -
Good recommendations from Harold and Ron!

No one here in Austin seems worried yet. There's the big Austin City Liimits Festival this weekend, and as part of my job I inquired of ACL and the festival promoters what their plans were for rain out or Rita-effects and they literally drew a blank. "It's going to go on rain or shine" they said. Seems unlikely we'll get much here in the way of high winds but. . . I'll make enough space under Helen's great-grandmother's incredibly sturdy dining room table for Helen and Marge Bouvier Haggerty-Armstrong (our cat) and myself. . . . Bout the best I can do! -
Let's play(if we haven't before) does anyone have
jazzbo replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Well, for me, to my great fiscal misfortune, the internet has been my main source for cds for about six years or more. I got all these cds on the internet. Anyone have this cd? Recommended if you like your Brazilian with a lot of twists. -
Just got this last night from cduniverse. So far, WOW. I really enjoy this. The sound is wonderful. I hadn't dug these sides out of the box set for a while, and they don't sound BAD there, but they're vivid here. The music has always been interesting, always something to find there, I even like Motian in this trio best of all his work that I've heard. A great price for these discs too.

I don't have the Stuff, yet. I have the others. Why ask? -
Trane Monk, yes, I have almost all his other stuff. As I said, Jelly is important in my listening world, I'm fascinated by hi work. IF you don't usually like early trad jazz, this may not be a great choice for you. Then again, it's mostly piano and voice, and a history lesson or three. I don't know what to advise you. It's not a limited edition so you have plenty of time to think and sample and decide.

Ha! I am the leader of Booty and Da Ho Fish!

Before my father decided to join the Peace Corps and take us to Addis Ababa, I was sceduled, in a few weeks, to go to Mastbaum High! How cool would that have been! Not that I would trade the five plus years in Africa I got instead!

Former thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=21195&st=0 Harold, this search function is weird, I barely get it to work for me, somehow I don't think right with its logic. What I do is go to the main forums page which has all the forums listed, and enter a search term in the box at the upper right. This works most of the time to pull up what I need. Also you can go to the individual forums and enter a search term in the box at the bottom. . .

I agree with what Harold said. I have to have it! The preorder price is the best deal likely on this for some time, and even though I shouldn't have, I preordered the day I read about this set (here on this board). Jelly is really important in my musical world, and I'm eager to learn more about him and his music on this set.
