  1. Gosh you'll soon be old enough to be part of history! Many more happy ones!
  2. Saw it lying on a restaurant table top and read it Saturday. Puff piece indeed!
  3. Mark, have a wonderful day!
  4. None! Something must be wrong! (Nah, I'm not that into dvds and pick up my own).
  5. Al, I'm not much up on shows in circulation by any means, so the fact that I haven't heard of any tapes of that show means NOTHING. Thought I would alert you to a previous thread about the Dead: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ful%20dead&st=0
  6. Oh man, you have NO IDEA what my listening is like these days. . . I have a TON of stuff to absorb and I'm not seeking out Legion of Mary stuff right now!
  7. I love the four volumes on lp I have of "The Queen and her Swedish Allstars" on Kenneth Records. . . great small group swing!
  8. Di, good to see ya post and have a wonderful Xmas.
  9. I'm with Pryan. Also with you guys in celebrating the gift of Woody Shaw!

Yes, "Jazzical Mood" was one Period incarnation of the Mingus . . . I think there may have been two 10"s that became the Bethlehem lp (minus one tune the Beth dropped). Discographic details just don't stay in my memory long any longer. . . . And I don't mourn their deletion much.
  11. Don't have that box. I have heard some "peaky" Bob vocals, but it doesn't dim his artistry for me and I'm not going to go round bashing Barlow and Weir because of it. . . . I've no time right now to go chasing Legions of Mary but maybe one day!
  12. From my wife I'm likely to get a Mac lap top. I didn't ask for it, but she wants me to have one. It will happen AFTER Xmas as we've been busy lately and haven't been able to order or pick one up. Likewise she's asked me for a digital camera and not told me what one she wants yet, so after Xmas it will be! I never get music from any of my family. . . they figure I have that covered.
  13. Two tracks not on the GRP? A R G H !
  14. Lee Wiley. I just didn't hear what was "great" about her. Dr. J tried to enlighten me. . . and eventually did. Thanks Tony! Andrew Hill. I kept trying to like "Point of Departure." Never happened. Branched out to the other dates; "Black Fire" and "Smoke Stack" hooked me, made me get his work. STILL don't like POD. . . .
  15. Well, I'm not going to play point/counterpoint to your need to dis Weir/Barlow whenever . . . All I'll say is I don't feel Bob is a stiff singer at all and he's an important component of the Dead that I like. This Keystone Pure Jerry is great!

Ya got me. Except. . . well this has happened before on the Mingus "Experimentations" session. I think it has to do with the lease of Period material to Bethlehem and then subsequent sale to Fantasy of the entire Period label (in the nineties?)

Thanks Jim! Thanks Brownie. No I actually meant the Bethlehem, not remembering that the OJC was the same album plus a couple of extra tracks (the extra tracks made a memorable impression on me!) I like the Urania . . . but I like the sessions with Cary and McPartland and Baudac better on the Beth/OJC.
  18. I agree those Notos are great!
  19. Have you seen me championing those turkey albums Clem? I'm a huge fan of Weir with the Dead. "Ace" basically IS a Dead album. I don't own those others, and I WON'T. But "Weather Report Suite" I feel is a sort of small masterpiece. I love his singing when he's not shouting and he's "on." And I think he's a helluva guitarist; listening to his chord choices and his comping support is always pleasing. No argument from me on the other stuff. I don't own any Kingfish or "Heaven Help the Fool" and Ratdog, what's that? B-)
  20. Well, the new Pure Jerry arrived yesterday and I've heard the whole set and have to say. . . WOW! This is a great sounding three cd set with killer performances! There's even a mystery trumpeter on one track who is really doing a great job! Exceded my expectations!

Not really so as far as I can tell. He DID have a different technique than many another trombonist . . . he learned to play when his arms weren't long enough to extend the slide fully and he simply figured out different tonguings etc. to make the notes. I wonder if this remark about him not playing the full range of the horn had to do with a misreading of his arm positioning.
  22. Chris, this is it. Crap, Chuck, like Clem I can't find the name. I'd laud him if I could. I dig the Roulette sound of almost every session I've heard. At least Addey lets the original sound shine through, unlike some other remasterers (in my opinion, and I don't think it's audio snobbery to want to hear good sound).
  23. It's quite good in my opinion Brad, nice selection. Same great sound. Lots of jazz people. A few things not on cd elsewhere I think.
  24. The Martians are coming is a Burnt Sienna Alert.
  25. Next year, courtesy of Spielberg with Tom Cruise.
