    Charlie Rouse

Both of those have been mentioned in this thread, but bear mentioning again! I'm listening to "Four in One" by Sphere right now.
  2. Personally, Dan, Carrie doesn't do ANYTHING for me. She's good, but she doesn't spark me at all. It's not a reaction against country, even when not doing country she fails to "reach" ME. But she has, I'm pretty sure, plenty of fans. SoulStream, yeah, Scott does have some interesting vibrato stuff going on. . . . I like how emotional he is. I'm an emotional guy as well. I can relate. Chris, I'm just not that fond of rockers overall. . . . I'd rather NOT see one win the competition. Hey, I'd have liked to see that cat that did Moody's Mood for Love go right to the top!
  3. I knew so many Bos and wannabe Bos in this music scene here that I think HE'S generic and he doesn't float my boat. He's competent. . . but boring. I think Vonzell is a bit on the generic side but I think she's the best singer there and I think she has a personality and stance I'd rather see validated by a win as idol than any of the others. . . . That's just me.
  4. I'm not making predictions like that. . . this thing doesn't go the way I figure it would, so I'm just riding it out watching what happens. I like Vonzell and I'm rooting for her. I like Scott too. . . . Not sure why, just do. Dislike the others big time.
  5. I saw that as one of many whacky short bits played before The Return of the King at the Alamo Drafthouse, Village Theater, Austin. It's even more hilarious on a big screen!
  6. Yes, I've had worse dreams. But they have nothing to do with this thread. . .
  7. Okay, I thought I read mention that the Fisher larger ensemble works (nice stuff!) were to be given their own Select. . . . I may have just been dreaming. . . .
  8. Vonzell is still there. Whew!

    Charlie Rouse

I got 'em too. I don't care about the back cover loss personallly. Great music!
  10. Okay. (If this were pertinent, I would wonder what else is in that set!)

    Fats Waller

The new RCA Centennial collection cd/dvd may be a good starting point. . . . You'll end up duplicating the material if you start collecting Fats, but the sound is excellent, the choice of tunes great, and the dvd is highly enlightening!
  12. Okay, but it does supplement with information something that Jim mentioned that may or may not have had anything to do with the thread.
  13. I think the PJs are due to be a Select. . . .
  14. Good point Ron. Austin would be way UP on the "down" list. (Now that's political double think and talk for ya).
  15. If the Legislature were ALWAYS in session rather than as it is now, Austin would probably be way up there. . .
  16. I'm a big fan of Emily!
  17. I think they may be European Blue Note releases. . . (?)
  18. His record label is Sensaton Records, though it seems dormant, and he has also done work for Jazz Oracle, supplying records or comments and notes. . . .
  19. Yes, I bought my dad a Denon receiver to replace an old Pioneer he was using and he loves it. He has a Denon cd player as well. It's only got about 30 watts, but he has full range EV speakers in a killer stereo cabinet handbuilt by a pro in 1964, and it IS a nice sounding system, fills up the big living room/dining room area with nice sound. What was originally in that cabinet was a Dynaco pre and power amp and tuner and an AR turntable. That was what I grew up on and I was spoiled!
  20. WHEW! I'm not alone! What are you using instead of the Adcoms?
  21. Hey, that was very nice of you!
  22. Yes, I'd agree, it will be a nice reissue if/when it comes out.
  23. Incredible sounding ride cymbal from Mickey Roker!
  24. I have both Roulettes on cd, and agree entirely with Sidewinder's assessment!
