  1. Been listening to the "Nuits de Saint-Germain-des-Pres" Django item in the series. If only Django had lived on into the following decades! There are elements in his playing here that I think would have really blossomed and maybe paved a different path for the guitar. He seemed to be really moving towards an exploration of the sound of the electric guitar in his own way. . . .
  2. Just got that "Melody" Flurin; going to have to listen to it soon!
  3. Wow, my wallet has finally been found!
  4. Knepper is a big favorite. I love that Mingus band with Shaw, Knepper and Hadi in the front line. FANTASTIC!
  5. I like that stuff a lot too, but in some senses I think of it as "The Big Warm Up"!
  6. Looks just like me too, thanks again Chris! Look for my new book this fall, "When You Left Me I Married My Dog: Southern Culture as Seen through Country Songs."
  7. This is a lot more than just making fun of Jaques BUT you'll enjoy it I'd wager! Really a fun experience!
  8. Anyone else really enjoy this movie? I thought it was just a wonderful film, thoroughly modern, thoroughly entertaining, with just the right amount of shallow end of the pool depth. . . . Mature Murray doing it so well and so on target once again!
  9. If you're really feeling adventurous, try "Spirits"--an interesting effort in which Keith plays various flutes and stringed and percusion instruments. His "Book Of Ways" harpsichord two cd set is likewise adventurous and oftren stunning. Not your father's harpsichord music. Likewise his "Hymns/Spheres" two lp set (or one cd "Spheres") treatment of pipe organ is stimulating and very different. (The two lp set has opening and concluding hynmns that are to die for which are not on the cd).
  10. You need "Changeless" for the out session (so to speak, non-standard playing). I love "Staircase" and "Koln Concert" as far as solo material goes. Excellent stuff, though I feel that way about nearly all of it. As for "standards trio," I think they're all excellent. . . ."Whisper Not" may be a good starting point.
  11. Sad news indeed. Best of wishes to the entire family. Grey is missed.
  12. Garth: Amen about Phil Woods. What an amazing player!
  13. David Sanborn? Bwa hah ha!
  14. Gosh you'll soon be old enough to be part of history! Many more happy ones!
  15. Saw it lying on a restaurant table top and read it Saturday. Puff piece indeed!
  16. Mark, have a wonderful day!
  17. None! Something must be wrong! (Nah, I'm not that into dvds and pick up my own).
  18. Al, I'm not much up on shows in circulation by any means, so the fact that I haven't heard of any tapes of that show means NOTHING. Thought I would alert you to a previous thread about the Dead: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ful%20dead&st=0
  19. Oh man, you have NO IDEA what my listening is like these days. . . I have a TON of stuff to absorb and I'm not seeking out Legion of Mary stuff right now!
  20. I love the four volumes on lp I have of "The Queen and her Swedish Allstars" on Kenneth Records. . . great small group swing!
  21. Di, good to see ya post and have a wonderful Xmas.
  22. I'm with Pryan. Also with you guys in celebrating the gift of Woody Shaw!

Yes, "Jazzical Mood" was one Period incarnation of the Mingus . . . I think there may have been two 10"s that became the Bethlehem lp (minus one tune the Beth dropped). Discographic details just don't stay in my memory long any longer. . . . And I don't mourn their deletion much.
  24. Don't have that box. I have heard some "peaky" Bob vocals, but it doesn't dim his artistry for me and I'm not going to go round bashing Barlow and Weir because of it. . . . I've no time right now to go chasing Legions of Mary but maybe one day!
