  1. I've never seen anything but the Atlantic and Columbia from Bell. Yeah, through the odd choices of lps given to Peace Corps volunteers in the mid sixties as care packages, I got "Another Dimension" as one of the very first lps I ever had (another was Leo Wright's excellent Blues Shout"and yet another was "Sister Salvation" by Slide Hampton), a gift from a volunteer who I guess didn't dig it when we were in Ethiopia. That version of "My Favorite Things" is KILLER. . . love the way it develops. TAhese are really good albums, but I don't expect to see them soon. . .
  2. I'm more worried about outliving my wife. There's all sorts of issues such as . . . could I remarry. . . if I did, where would I be buried. . . and then there's this odd fear I have of. . .THE HAUNTING! I think.
  3. I really like this one. . .Italian Flute Concertos . . .Rampal. .. Sony. Mellow sound, nice material, very relaxing and uplifiting.
  4. Not really. . . I just love my wife like MAD!
  5. One woman friend told me that she used to sit in her living-room reading a book about how to divorce healthily . . . and her husband sat there either obliviously or not daring to say a word! Amazing! I'd be on my knees pleading for my married life!
  6. The Ovation is a HEAVY MOFO.
  7. No Hans! No Deus! NO! NO!
  8. Hmmm. . .maybe. . . . Maybe the fact that the Breadwinner was used in the Partridge Family was the inspiration! Hope not. Man, how did Cassidy keep that guitar on? It's HEAVY!
  9. Wow Claude, didn't know about this one. Hope you find it!
  10. Shawn's is a really nice guitar, I know from first hand experience (and he plays very well, don't let him tell you differently!) I'm very jealous looking at these guitars. I've only had three guitars in my life: a 1976 Martin D18, a late sixties Gibson SG (mahogany finish) and now an Ovation Breadwinner as below (not mine, but mine is just like this). . . . It's an okay guitar, I like to play a little blues with it. . . needs some work, and I have a cheap Marshall amp I HATE . . . if I had a tube amp I'd play more. . . but I can't justify it!
  11. Hopefully you'll get this email I just sent!
  12. RT: That was why I posted THAT picture! Yes she was quite a beauty. When I was younger she wasn't my "type." Funny how your type can "broaden" as you age to encompass lots of "types!"

    March 1st RVG

Evan, I'm a few weeks or a few months away from getting these titles, but I can say that there is a quite identifiable difference between the earlier cds and the JRVGs of these titles.
  14. John, I have an early paper listing of all the material then identified at home. . . never did get the artwork myself but haven't missed it. . . if no one has supplied you with something electronic today I'll type it out for you tomorrow. (Or mail you a photocopy).
  15. PS: I sent you an email through the board recently re: another matter. . . ja get it?
  16. I'm glad you guess that's cool!

    Feb 15 RVGs

I haven't gotten these RVGs yet, but Ron, whatever you do, DO NOT listen to the Smell-o-Vision version of "A Night in Tunisia" without several open windows! By the end of that track the band is RIPE!
  18. Keep 'em comin' K!
  19. I want to wish you all the best as well, and many happy returns!
  20. I found that thread by accident a few months ago. I haven't had a lot of time to explore it but what a treasure trove! Someone really does collect these in a way that some of us collect jazz!
  21. Brad, I can understand you not liking it and me liking it; there are a number of instances I've noticed you dislike something I do, there you go, nothing wrong with that. There's room enough for what you like and for what I like to be offered for sale. For me it WORKS in a good time New Orleans way. AND I DO think a lot of Blue Notes all through the history of the label were built on a formula: the small group swing formula, the bop and hardbop quintet formula, the soul jazz formula, the organ trio formula. . . . That's cool, but I get TIRED of the formulas more often these days, and something like this release is a nice breath of fresh air.
  22. Pie! Strawberry rhubarb! Blueberry! Pecan! Peach! Apple! Frito pie!
  23. Looks like a fantastic book! Thanks for sharing.
  24. That Fats Centennial is GREAT. My next one is Dylan's "New Morning." Been on a kick of this period Dylan lately and dug out my lp and it's non beuno. . .
