  1. “Joe Newman at Count Basie’s” Mercury LP facsimile cd, Japan
  2. Whew! Another cool morning. Flipped the heat on . . . it works! Right now Joe Lovano Quartet “Classic! Live at Newport” Blue Note cd
  3. This has already been out in Japan; I received a copy at the end of August.
  4. Grant Green “Feelin’ the Spirit” I sure have a number of copies of this Green session. . . it is a favorite. This time I’m listening to the 85th Anniversary UHQCD from Blue Note Japan.
  5. Stan Getz “Sweet Rain” Verve Originals cd This time through I’m focusing on the always interesting drumming by Grady Tate. Grady Tate–what a name.
  6. This album has fascinated me a few decades. This High Definition Tape Transfer cdr is the best sounding version I have heard. Powell is just weaving stories to me on this one. And with Michelin and Clarke supporting him he can just go where he pleases. The Monk numbers make me feel as if he is really playing these to a friend. . . far away. Bud Powell “A Portrait of Thelonious” Columbia/HDTT cdr
  7. Andrew Hill “Compulsion” Blue Note/HDTT cdr
  8. Bill Charlap Trio “Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein” Blue Note cd Been a long time since I’ve gone through my Charlap cds. They don’t disappoint!
  9. Okay, thanks. I forgot Hank was on this. I really don't remember this the same sort of thing. I'll look for it to revisit.
  10. Nigel Kennedy “Kennedy Meets Gershwin” Was thinking of my Dad, which led to Gershwin. . . . He was a Gershwin nut.
  11. Bill Charlap Trio “Uptown, Downtown” Impulse cd
  12. Gabor Szabo “Rambler” CTI 50th Anniversary King cd 800×600 80.2 KB Makes me think of the Garcia band.
  13. I don't know of a Newport one with Hank.
  14. The nice and cool calm before it gets hot today. Airto “Natural Feelings” Japan cd Airto’s work of this time period is fascinating to me. (This was recorded in 1970). This group of musicians work so well together! Hermeto brings his magic here. Bass – Ron Carter Guitar – Sivuca Percussion, Vocals – Airto Moreira Piano, Organ, Harpsichord, Flute – Hermeto Vocals – Flora Purim
  15. Kurt Elling “Super Blue” Not your typical Elling disc.
  16. The New Sound Quartet “The Summer Knows” Eighty-Eights LP
  17. Charles Mingus “Changes One” Atlantic cd from this box set 604×596 46.8 KB
  18. “Jazz Celebration: A Tribute To Carl Jefferson” Concord Records 4 cd set, disc 2
  19. Moacir Santos “Ouro Negro” disc 1
  20. Yes, I never had the 1967 LP. . . I had this at first in the 2 LP set with the Tokyo concert. That was a dynamite one-two punch when it was released.
  21. I put in the "mono" disc 1 of the "Berlin" 2 cd set just to hear "Stella by Starlight" which was not included on the second disc. This is a phenomenal "Stella." Then. . . . Moacir Santos “Ouro Negro” disc 2 I just love this 2 cd set and never play it often enough.
  22. A really cool morning! Fall is in the air, though 80 degrees are due later this week. The kitchen cabinets will be finished today. . . and then the long wait for the countertops begins. Starting off with an old favorite in a new “light”–Miles Davis “Miles in Berlin” Blu-Spec CD2, disc 2 (the original German “stereo” release remastered) The only drawback really is that this does not have the delightful “Stella by Starlight” released later.
  23. Chick Corea + Origin “A Week at the Blue Note” disc 6
  24. Johnny Griffin "The Little Giant" Riverside Records/JVC XRCD Johnny Griffin, tenor saxophone Blue Mitchell, trumpet Julian Priester, trombone Wynton Kelly, piano Sam Jones, bass Albert "Tootie" Heath, drums
