  1. The first cd in this fascinating, expertly done box set: Centennial King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band / Various Artists
  2. The calm after the storm. Quite a bit of rain but we dodged more severe weather for once. Bobby Watson “Back Home in Kansas City” Smoke Sessions cd
  3. My copy of the Harrell is due Thursday.
  4. I survived day One of kitchen demo and installation of ceiling lights. Day Two begins in a few hours. Is it October yet? Another stuffy morning. . . . First off was Hampton Hawes “All Night Sessions 1-3” from a 2cd Japanese Contemporary set, disc 1 Followed by “Acoustic Masters II” Atlantic cd
  5. Series finale of EVIL. I am really going to miss that show.
  6. I haven't delved into this yet, but it has arrived and just from the physical object itself in hand I know it will be magnificent.
  7. "Welcome to the Club" has lyrics written by Noel Sherman who also wrote the lyrics to "Ramblin' Rose."
  8. "Another Dimension" was one of the first records that I ever owned. Cool that Ron Carter was in my jazz listening from the beginning.
  9. "Bobby Gordon Plays Bing" Arbors Jazz cd I love Gordon's clarinet playing, and these cats really know how to get deep into these jazz styles of the past. "Bobby Gordon Plays Bing" Arbors Jazz cd I love Gordon's clarinet playing, and these cats really know how to get deep into these jazz styles of the past.
  10. My kitchen remodel physically begins this morning, I'm squeezing this in while I can on this stuffy morning. Fiona the dachshund has settled down for a nap before all the excitement begins. Bill Charlap "Stardust" Blue Note cd A beautiful album. Tony Bennett is singing right now. . . wonderfully. Sound is great as well. Oddly I bought this used as "Plays George Gerswin: the Soul of America" which is the jewel case I got. . . with the Stardust cd within. Still, a great cd!
  11. Son Brasil “Tudo Joia” A Chicago group doing Brazilian music, and very well.
  12. Wayne Shorter “Celebration Volume 1” Blue Note cd, disc 2 780×520 37 KB
  13. Up late. . . my wife was worrying about our future kitchen, and the dachshund was having a rough time falling asleep. So I got in a bit of listening: Miles Davis “Someday My Prince” will Come Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023, mono disc 800×800 61.5 KB Followed by “Acoustic Masters I” Atlantic cd
  14. "Neil Swainson Quintet," Concord cd
  15. Both those sets are well worth having even if chances are you have quite a bit already in both.
  16. Johnny Holiday “Holiday for Lovers” Mode Records/Muzak Records Japan lp facsimile cd I had never heard this before picking up this Japanese edition. Holiday sounds like a cross between Ol’ Blue Eyes and the Man with the Gyrating Hips from Memphis. Some slightly whack trumpet solos here I really enjoy. Sound is excellent!
  17. There are two 2 cd sets called "Last Sessions" that have all star small ensemble recordings by Shaw that are wonderful.
  18. Right. I've seen those. Don't seem similar to me.
  19. Looks different to me than that. It's from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwion_Gwion_rock_paintings
  20. What really solidified my love for Lovano was his three Blue Note releases with Hank Jones. Boom. I became a big fan.
  21. “Kingfish” LP
  22. I listened to the Joe Locke again, warming the amp up after a short walk with Fiona the dachshund in the cool morning air. Now disc 1 of the 2 cd set from Blue Note, the late Wayne Shorter, first release from a series of material he collated before his passing, “Celebration.” A live show from Stockholm in 2014. Very nice.
