Am thinking of buying an IEM. Any recent thoughts? I'm considering Klipsch S4i because it has an iPod control, but may be shortchanging myself. Jazzbo, do you still still still, after all these years, love your B&O's? Are they at all noise-isolating?

Well, it says "and tracks that have never been on CD before." So perhaps they're dubbed from vinyl. One candidate may be Lloyd G. Mayers (who?). I'm curious about the business side of it. The title is "Douglas on Blue Note," when, as we know, he never produced for the original BN. Many of the dates he produced for United Artists were eventually released on CD with a BN logo. And this new compilation is on Douglas Records. So it'll be interesting to see how this all sorts out.

How is this listed on iTunes? I only see the first disc. I am on Itunes Canada. A few months ago I bought "Monday Night At Birdland" which has the following tracks : "Walkin', All The Things You Are, Bag's Groove and There Will Never Be Another You". The album cover art shows Hank sitting and holding his saxophone and adjusting his mouthpiece. The release date is Jan 01 2009. Hallmark 2009. Now six more albums have been added. The album cover art is all the same. Background blue cover, with writings in red. All from 2009 Makin Friends Records. There is "Monday Night At Birdland" identical to the one I bought above. And there is "Another Monday Night At Birdland" with the following tracks : "It's You Or No One, Jamph, Nutville, and Wee". Denis Interesting. The others are not available from iTunes USA. They do have 3 additional boots (using the same photo that appears on Hank's "Third Season" BN release) that contain much of his '50's BN work; label name is "Hallmark." For when you care to send the very best, I guess.

IMHO, this is one of the great jazz boxes. The presentation is thoughtful, the graphics are great, and the booklet is sublime. There's a great, long interview with Sonny, and he discusses this period in depth. At the right price, you should buy the box just for the booklet.

On the CD reissue of the Philly Joe Jones album "Drums Around The World," there's a previously unissued version of Stablemates. In the liner notes, Keepnews said he found it in an unmarked box. There was once a thread (was it here or on the BNBB?) that stated this was from an entirely different session that wasn't even PJJ's. Does anyone remember this thread?

Ugh, so if this subject wasn't complicated enough, what do I come across today but a blog post from some other Zappa fanatics who link to yet another YT video of this tune. This sounds a lot to me like the one I figured was the 1984 CD...but the uploader is claiming that this is the original vinyl. Does the vinyl version really sound like this? Yes, that is the way the vinyl sounded, with one caveat: it sounds like the mono version.
