  17. Indeed, worthy of admiration. I wonder if his literary background actually made him more fit for leadership than someone whose political resume was more typical (law, business, politics, etc). It is that humanist quality that seems to me to be so lacking today; indeed, held in contempt or derision by too many.

  19. This is really a strong selling point, for me at least: Notes in the booklet about sound: "This edition also boasts the finest sound quality ever bestowed on Arthur Rubinstein's complete recordings. The masters for the principal works in the collection come from the series of Living Stereo SACDs and Japanese XRCDs. All the other recordings are based on masters from the Rubinstein Collection of 1999, technically and sonically refurbished for this edition. In cases where the desired results could not be obtained, Sony Classical has gone back to the original analogue tapes." Have to give this one serious consideration.
  20. Trevor Watts is absolutely on fire in the LP, and Barry Guy and John Stevens, of course, are terrific. Spotlite LP--sounds great too.

  22. This Miles Davis album is, er, uh, um, "cool", but that last track with Bob Dorough does nothing for me, and must rank as one of the odder moments in Milesiana.
