  2. Hi Tranewreck, welcome. My listening tends to go in phases. Right now and for the last few years, the musicians I go back to most often are Peter Brotzmann, Evan Parker Ken Vandermark, John Butcher,, John and Alice Coltrane, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy.

  6. Jim, I can understand that the forum must pay for itself, and not come out of your pocket. I am wondering how much of a shortfall would need to be made up to avoid advertising? Or, put another way, would an extra $5 or $10 per member erase the deficit?

  16. Too bad so much of their programming is bland and unadventurous.
  17. IIRC, the violin was on some kind of educational or performance loan from a foundation. The loser (literally) is just a student.

  19. The first few minutes of this record always crack me up as the members of the band engage is a bit of good-natured "repartee." I never get tired of Jackie's playing.
  20. Yup, that clears it up nicely. Thanks!
  21. I picked up a copy of Jackie McLean's "A Long Drink of the Blues." It is in an originalPrestige New Jazz sleeve (8253), 203. So. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, N.J. However, the LP itself bears an orange "Status" label with the song titles on it and the number ST8253. I found nothing in the McLean discography on this, and could find very little on Status (seems they issued some Kenton albums?). Anyway, can anyone give me some background on Status generally, and how they ended up getting involved with this Jackie Mac title? Thanks.
