  2. Those Charles Tyler and Mats Gustafsson albums are cool. Hadn't played any Dizzy in a loooong time, so:
  3. David, great thread. Your initial post really expresses my own perspective. I think most of the sets I would have selected have already been named, but I don't think these have (if they have, apologies): Braxton Iridium box on Firehouse 12 The Vandermark Resonance box on Not Two The Vandermark Alchemia box on Not Two
  4. Alexander Hamilton Aaron Burr The Shootist
  5. Club Med Dmitry Medvedev Nikolai Medtner
  6. "Women in Love" is a superb film, I think KR's best. Many of his other films are of interest, but I think everything really came together for him on this film: story, actors, cinematography.
  7. Sun Tzu Lao Tzu Zoolander
  8. The vinyl is very findable - I guess you want it on CD... Yep. Has it ever been reissued on CD? I don't think it has - that's why I thought that 'hard to come by' understated the case! I just played the album this weekend and posted it in the Vinyl thread. It's really a fine album, and if you are a CT fan, should get it. Has not been out on CD. MPS recorded it. Are they issuing CDs these days? If not, we might not see this one on CD, unless someone picks up the rights. David, I'm not saying this album is rare but I don't think it is all that common either.
  9. BB sale prices seem to track pretty closely to Amazon's non-sale prices, at least on the jazz box sets I checked.
  10. Opie and Anthony Anthony Wiener Flash Gordon
  11. I have the "Sketches and Ballads" LP and totally dig it. Excellent production values. I posted this album in the Vinyl section a little while back. Looking forward to the Cafe Oto release.
  12. Emperor Gratian Caligula Bob Guccione
  13. Paul Rutherford Poul Rouders Mark Rudd
  14. McCoy Tyner: ASANTE. Blue Note. Andrew White plays sax on this album. I checked out Mr. White's Wikipedia page. Turns out he is a native and long-time resident of Washington DC. Graduate of Howard University. He has played sax, oboe and electric bass professionally. Pretty interesting career.
  15. Cecil Taylor, "Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly!" (a silly title that has probably harmed the album's reception). On the PA USA label, per the album jacket, MPS International under license to Pausa Records. Carefully and indeed lovingly recorded in Germany at the MPS studio, this is like having a private Cecil recital in your living room. Clear, warm, close recording, great presence. Cecil plays on an excellent MPS Bosendorfer Grand Piano Imperial. You can hear Cecil's amazing technique here (not to mention a bit of his humming). Generally overlooked Cecil album I think, well worth looking out for.
  16. Michelangelo Buonarroti Sonny Bono Cher
  17. I think the attraction is centered on the word "freap." What is that? Freak + creep? Have no idea. Let alone "two-headed freap." Whatever it means, it compels interest in excess of musical value.
  18. Adam Sandler Eve Ensler Raphael Saadiq
  19. Uncle Miltie Milton Bradley John Milton
  20. PM sent on the Coltrane box. Also the Tilbury/Feldman. I just picked up the Braxton box or would be all over it.
  21. If it keeps record stores open, and makes vinyl and CD popular again with the under-30 crowd, then I'm all for it, and apparently, RSD is doing just that.
  22. This has come up a few times on other threads (I know, since I've brought it up once or twice ) . Like airlines, they constantly use algorithms to price plane seats. It is annoying, but the upside is that you can sometimes take advantage of the price drops. On large purchases, probably worth checking the price over a one or two week period.
  23. Medjuck, I doubt it was you, but it is amazing what kind of smack people in the audience are talking when greats like Miles, Bill Evans, and Sun Ra are performing. We might be hearing timeless, or at least important, music, but for many of the folks whose chatter we hear on these records, it is just probably just a soundtrack to an amorous evening.
