I've had a habit of starting the New Year with music that is special or hits the right theme (for me). I haven't given as much thought on music to wrap up the year, probably because I often go out on New Year's Eve. This year, I started off the New Year with Coltrane's "Sun Ship" followed by "Love Supreme." For the several preceding years, it was "Giant Steps" and "My Favorite Things." I haven't settled on this New Year's music. Anyway, wondering if any of you do something similar, and if so, what music you play to usher out the old and bring in the new.

Never saw that cover for Tijuana Moods. I know! I had a heck of a time finding an illustration. Almost all list the one with the lovely senorita on it. I didn't even find it listed in Discogs. The album number is RCA APL1-0939. Jacket states "Formerly LSP 2533." The LP has an RCA Victor tan label.

Yeah, I like that one a lot. Review for those who are curious. Good review Clifford. I like your comparison to The Thing. For my part, I find Mats stuff to be somewhat variable. I prefer him in situations like The Thing and Tarfala, but I've not been won over by his experiments in electronics. I appreciate that he wants to expand his palette, but i don't think he touches on his strengths in that kind of music. Just my taste perhaps.

I'm sorry to hear that KKJZ is even worse, although cold comfort. I've actually communicated with BGO in a variety of ways and suggested just those ideas you mention in your post. They absolutely don't get it. Ironic that they now have a transmitter than can send their signal further, but their programming becomes ever less worthy of being heard.
