Four aspects of Sam Rivers' artistry. On Vol. One, Side A, Sam plays soprano sax, Side B, tenor sax. On Vol. 2, Side A, Sam plays flute, Side B, piano. Improvising Artists LPs. NYC 1976. Brilliant performances from Sam and Dave Holland:
It seems to me both a fantasy and a nightmare. I'll take it as a warning to my own pack rat record instincts. Rather have 1,000 well chosen, high-quality, orderly record collection than 4 floors of who knows what.
But with all those 78s in there, I suspect jeff Crom might already be winging his way to S.A.
I had read the article a few days ago and had the same reaction. Seems to happen on a fairly frequent basis to violinists, as these articles tend to pop up rather regularly. I suppose no matter the cost of the violin, the violinist is still human and hence prone to mistakes.
I know one thing: it never happens to piano players
The following have enough variety and general quality to make collecting them interestingI think: Mainstream, Muse, Inner City, Milestone. I think Contemporary might still be within the bounds of affordability, although some titles will be pricey.
I suggest you use Discogs to scope out these and other labels and see if the label's body of work suits your tastes and interest: otherwise, why bother?
The album rises somewhat above the hokey concept underlying the album. Lateef did pretty well filling the role of the "exotic" jazz player (shaved head, then-exotic name, the association with "Eastern" music, etc). Nevertheless, he did make some nice albums.
Not sure what "turbo" refers too but it sounds to me like you have a sort of gussied-up dial up Internet connection. If it is dial-up, you would be better served with a cable or DSl connection if possible, which provide faster connections and downloads. But don't anticipate trouble, as they say. If it has served you well so far, it will probably continue to do so, especially with a more up-to-date spec computer.
From my experience, the standard sound and video on today's computers are sufficient for the purposes you state. You might want to upgrade the sound and video if you are an ardent gamer (i.e., play a lot of video games on your computer), but then you would be looking for a computer with a lot more power. As long as you have a decent internet connection, you should have no problem watching streaming video.
