I used to live in Chicago, For a second, it looked like a typical bad day on Lake Shore Drive

Looks completely FAKE to me. Maybe it's a screen capture from that film that came out a few years ago , about a tidal wave that hits NYC.

Best way to check is to check EBAY sales, current and completed. I had a few comics that I came across, put them on EBAY and they brought surprisingly good prices.

Evolution: Is This Where We're Heading?
Leeway replied to robviti's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Is it going to get into that "My talon is bigger/longer than your talon"? B-) Women will want to "breed" with men with "big talons" and thus will the trait be "propagated." -
KJs squalling while he plays the piano is just awful.

Don't know why (maybe a date wanted to go), but I went to a BST concert (over 30 years ago ). Can't remember who was also on the bill. Really more pop than jazz. But, I do like the fact that, at one time, there was a real feeling that rock, jazz, pop could all fit together and attract the same audience.

yes. yourmusic.com is BMG-everything the same, even the invoice and boxes they use to ship the discs in. I don't understand it, but I like it! I've yet to have the backorder problem-I've received the Relaxin' SACD and the Lush Life SACD without any problem. I also got the Relaxin' SACD. I hope the backorders come through.

I was browsing some old Downbeats from the late 60s or early 70s. I seem to recall that BST was voted best jazz group at some point. Can that be right? I do know they scored high in the Readers Polls. I can't imagine why.

Ditto. Nearly everything I order is on "Backorder." This is a very odd operation indeed. Either they are overwhelmed with orders (a possibility at those prices) or this is some kind of come-on that's not going to make it. They don't seem to have any stock at all. What's up with that? I did get a few CDs out of them. They do have SACD and K2 remasters, but be careful-- the pics don't always show the actual item (i.e., no MoFi ) . Make sure the listing states SACD or remastered.

Happy Birthday As you like Mosaics, here's a birthday present:

GREAT JAZZ TRIO - MILESTONES 1978, Inner City Records. Hank Jones, Ron Carter, Tony Williams. Fine trio playing, and top-notch sound.

Speaking generally or just on this board? If the latter then I'm surprised you don't think a 10-1 ratio is not already adequate.

Kind of ironic really, considering her own troubles with bulimia and serial boyfriends. B-)

Oxford Companion to Jazz
Leeway replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
A mighty dangerous charge around these parts. The book should carry a warning: "Not for those who prefer their own 'primal' experience of jazz, unfettered by any social, cultural, historical or musical commentary, especially 'intellectual" efforts by so-called critics." -
I thought "Hot Stampers" was the name of some obscure (thus great B-) ) folk jam dance band, or somethin'. I note only that the Hot Stamper LPs linked to the site carry enormous price tags. Most of these LPs can be had for a few bucks in most used LP shops. I've done plenty of "hot stamping" to them, back in the day

Oxford Companion to Jazz

I have the book, bought it when a local store was closing, 35% off. Afterwards, I saw it being remaindered for about half price, but checking again recently, I'm not seeing any deep discounts on it. A really good lineup of writers-- dare we call them jazz "critics" ? B-) -
Joe Cocker- "GREATEST HITS, Volume I," Pickwick. The front and back covers show Joe in all his psycho-spastic glory. Can't find a scan of this British issue. I had nearly forgotten how good Cocker is. I've really come to appreciate him again. Les McCann - ON TIME Pacific Jazz 56. With Leroy Vinnegar, Ron Jefferson, Joe Pass (just out from Synanon)

Congrats and best wishes. Went through that three times with my wife. Pretty exciting event. Enjoy the moment. You can log on to Org when you are helping with those middle-of-the night feedings BTW, Johnny E, we need all the liberals we can get, so thanks for doing your part

Hell, my wife curses my collection while I'm alive. (At least she doesn't curse me.) Every so often, she threatens to get together with my best friend's wife and sell both of our record/cd collections at a yard sale for 10 cents a piece. I just hope that she waits til I'm gone. Man, I just hope I see that yard sale notice before anyone else! I'm BUYING

Or we could work the deceased into the Gourse thread and kick a little dirt on your grave B-) Anyway, I'm taking my CDs with me. You never know, there might be a chance to play them in the "Afterlife"

Soulful? The guy from Dusty Groove must be doing some freelance work

There are peoples (and foods) in between the coasts and outside of Chicago, you know... Around here, it's a Mexican (puro Mexicano, btw) thing, that's how I got hip to it, but as our Asian and Indian populations grew, it soon became obvious that this was an herb with global implications, and tasty ones at that. Agreed. Fortunately, not much of it has to do with cilantro "Aaah, I'll have that cheesesteak sandwich with mayo, cheese, onions, and CILANTRO!"

Personally, I prefer to keep the CDs intact, but I came across a possible solution for you at the Cadence web site. It's called jewelbox-gone: Cadence CD sleeve

Blue Note, Liberty pressing. Anyone take note of the fact that Horace Silver and Monk both play on "Misterioso?" Trvia question: had Monk played on the same track with any other pianist? Blue Note, New York pressing. George Coleman is superb. BN, Liberty. Roland Hanna, piano; Frank Wess, sporano and flute, Ron Carter, bass, Ben Riley, drums. Recorded live in Tokyo, April 2, 1975. On the Salvation label. Hanna and Wess are probably good candidates for any "unjustly overlooked" lists.
