  1. O.K., I get it. You don't care about the question I asked. You have some personal agenda you're attending to.
  2. That's a not quite fair paraphrase of what I said- " It seems to me Mr. Murray may have forfeited his right to royalties from ethically obtained digitized copies of this work when he agreed to limit availability to only 600 copies." That gets us back to the question of what is an 'ethically obtained digitized copy"? How did we get from the question (regarding ethics) I asked to, "downloading something illegally"? Secondly, you imply that you know Murray's feelings and thoughts on my question. Do you really? I'm not trying to raise an argument, just asking that those who choose to respond to my inquiry do so without imputing questions to me that are off the mark. Rupe
  3. You are right, "forced" was the wrong word. The sentence should have read, "... otherwise, one option for those without a turntable ... who desire unfettered access to this recording, might be to obtain a digitized copy from one who owns the LP. As to your second question, the answer is no, I would not have thought to (and would not now) send Sunny Murray royalties if, after concluding that it was ethical to do so, I obtained a copy in such a manner. It seems to me Mr. Murray may have forfeited his right to royalties from ethically obtained digitized copies of this work when he agreed to limit availability to only 600 copies. That is why I am interested in others' opinions on the ethics of the situation. Rupe
  4. . Eremite is limiting its LP release of "Big Chief" to 600 copies, and are not planning on a digital release (personal communication). For one who does not own (or plan to own) a system to play vinyl, is obtaining a digital copy of this album (for personal use) from someone who owns it, ethical? I think yes, but would be interested in others' opinions. Rupe
  5. FWIW, via the Eremite Records website I sent an e-mail encouraging that all their offerings be made available on CD. I pointed out that, otherwise, those without a turntable (and arm, and cartridge, and phono pre-amp, and storage space for vinyl, and record cleaning machine, and... ) would be forced to obtain a digitized copy. That, of course, would be of benefit to neither the artists nor eremite records. If you feel as I do, consider sending eremite a note.
  6. . I am used to being able to scroll down a page to see all the responses to an OP. Now all I see is tree diagramming the responses, and I can only click to see those one at a time. Does this reflect a Forum change, or is there a setting I can change so that I can again scan all of the posts in a thread by scrolling? Tx, Rupe

  10. Hi World B3 (and all). We'll be at the Hotel Kabuki, on Post street in 'Japantown'. We'll be there a couple of nights and should have one whole day free. We like to stroll, hang out with a paper and coffee, people watch, eat tasty things in informal settings, see natural and man-made beauty, and, of course, music (though Madame's taste is ... well... ). I'm not a big shopper (and I try to keep my wife out of the stores as she has a bit of a problem with impulsive buying). Then we'll probably go for a one day/two night excursion somewhere. Rupe
  11. Thank you all for info and kind words. (The UCSF Med Ctr campur we are going to is the Mt. Zion one. Thanks for the recs.) Rupe
  12. Thank you so very much for the above. (Madame Dacat and I are simply trying to make some lemonade out of lemons she's been dealt. The purpose of our trip is for Jane to be evaluated at UCSF Med Center for a very rare neck tumor that requires a delicate and dangerous operation.) Rupe
  13. My wife and I will be in S.F. in April for a short trip. Its been years since we've been there. We're planning on staying in the city for 2 nights and then take a nice drive (somewhere) and spend another 2 nights. Any ideas/recs would be appreciated. Tx, Rupe
  14. I caught only snatches (recorded it for later) of the 2007 conversation with Ornette. It sounded to me as if he was saying something like every note is a 3rd (for example) of some other note and therefor all notes are the same. Is that what you got out of that? I know that he is famously difficult to interpret. Rupe
  15. N.B. Lazaro is in the Eastern time zone. Don't suffer the disappointment I've felt in the past due to failure to note such details. I missed Bill Dixon with The Exploding Star Orchestra at the Chicago Jazz Festival due to a misunderstanding about time. And that was after I had dropped in a couple of times on the rehearsals. Rupe
  16. Either I or my new, beloved, Streamripper stream recording software will be listening. Tx.
  17. Chuck- Have you considered opening a charm school? Take it easy(er), Rupe
  18. Truly, it is. I feel like a kid with a new red bike! Z.
  19. Hot dog! Due to poor planning on my part I missed them at the Chicago Jazz Festival this past summer. Just today I aquired (no cash required) the capability to record internet radio streams to hard-drive. Your show will be my first such recording. Tx, Rupe
  20. I'm good to go! What I did: 1) Downloaded (free) Winamp music player. This was necessary because Windows Media Player (what I have been using) cannot open the file type (.pls) that is required to access the WKCR mp3 stream. I can assure all Winamp is very well regarded by those who I believe are "in the know". 2) Downloaded (free) Streamripper (Winamp plug-in). 3) Fiddled around until I realized I had to give the computer instructions ("Default Programs" in Windows Vista) to associate pls and mp3 files with Winamp. 4) Fiddled around, ended up at the Streamripper Forum, used the Search function to quickly find the answer to a snag I had run into, and, 5) To my (no small) surprise- found things to work as advertised. All in all, I've been through a lot worse trying to get a new program up and running. Thanks for your help and suggestions, Rupe P.S. I will be recording the "Transfigured Night" shows on WKCR early morning Sarurday 3/9 and 3/16 when the music of Alexander von Schlippenbach will be featured.
  21. Thank you alocispepraluger102. A friend I spoke with since posting my query has suggested that I also check out the free offerings at: http://www.mp3mymp3.com/index.html and http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Now suffering from an embarrassment of riches, Rupe Add: Groan... Suffering is right. I've now tried the above two programs with no success (on my computer, with my soundcard). YMMV. I'll report back when I get something working.
  22. Is there a way to record such a stream to a computer's hard drive for later, elective, listening. Tx, Rupe
