Happy Birthday! -
I grew up in San Diego, we never did anything sick or wrong, just boring stuff...

Watermelon has to have salt on it! It just adds flavor that is like the NBA -- fantastic.

I don't know why but since day one, when I saw this cover, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.....

Cabin baggage ban hits musicians

I've stopped doing carry-on about a year ago. It's just too much of a hassle; taking the laptop out, unbuckle the belt, take everything out of the pockets, take off the shoes, dump your wallet in the box, and THEN, there's agood chance you get pulled out of the line for an intense check (three times for me). Much easier to have nothing. Flying sucked after 9/11, and it just keeps getting worse, especially when you have to travel as a part of your job. Sorry for the rant but this is going to make flying more of a chore, if that's possible. -
Nice I've also been making a habit of checking out other uploads from posters whose vids I like. Check out what else he's put up! http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=softgaloil Thanks for the heads up. Whew- YouTube is getting hard to keep up with... Dan should check out the Ray Brown Trio stuff since it has Gene Harris playing. The influence of this board -- every time I see Gene Harris' name, I think of Dan.

Ron Powers: Mark Twain: A Life. Kind of an up and down book. The facts are pretty straight forward but the writing style, at times, is over the top. Calls Twain the first "Rock Star," which, while cute, doesn't help toward any deeper understanding of Clemens. Too "slangy" in style also, so I think this book will age badly. Saying that however, it is worth reading if you happen come across it on sale.

You can wear the Ferragamo Slingback Pumps with them, I mean, they are 10AAA. Hmmmm... 10AAA.....

There is no rhymn or reason to what Concord is doing. I've received my second order today, with my third on the truck but my first order, the Coltrane box, I have yet to hear anything on. What can you do? If you call the answer will be: "It's at the where-house."

Received confirmation on my third order -- which was all K-2's. Got all the Blakey's, the Monk's but Art Pepper: Smack Up wasn't filled. This order was placed 7/22 no. 6052. Still no "Complete Coltrane." PS: Sorry Ron S: I must be special...

I received confirmation this morning that my second order, no. 6057, which I placed on 7/22, has been shipped (42 cds). However, there's no word on my first order The Complete Coltrane, placed on 7/21 . Edit: To make sense out of what I wrote.

One of my projects today has been to compare One Down, One Up & Chasin' the Trane (Thursday, November 2, 1961 VV) and it's been very interesting listen. Intense music, to say the least.

I'm really late to this party but Down One, Up One is just great playing by a master. Interesting comments regarding time, rythmn, and all kinds of stuff in this thread. I want to thank everyone for making this one of the most interesting and annoying threads in the history of Organissimo. Going have to listen, experience and think over the music here for a long time.

Very happy that "Happenings" is coming out, that has my favorite rendition of "Maiden Voyage." Classy music.

That would be cool... Make it so!

Someone gave me all three seasons of these guys as a gift.... I'm enojying it, especially junior...

I had that same trouble when I looked up John Coltrane -- every "John" would be included. Now I just type in Coltrane and that helps, I also do that with other artists names (type in the most unique half of the name), it seems to thin things out.

Thanks for the help Ed, that clears up some of the questions I had about '61. According to Dave Wild's website that discography is suppossed to come out in September but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Wow, wrong date? Now that interesting because that means Coltrane played the Chicago gig, then went to New York on March 20 and played with Miles on Someday My Prince Will Come number, with Teo coming on the 21. The date would also make sense because Dolphy was with 'Trane at the "Village Gate" gig for all of August; then the Newport Jazz Festival in CA. Yeah, it does make sense because the Village Vanguard cuts sound too put together not to have been worked out a lot before hand by the group. Thanks! Dmitry: Garrett was on the two you mentioned as well as Live in Seattle, and Selflessness.

Trying to get a handle on Coltrane in 1961 (very interesting year!) and I'm wondering if any tapes of his time in Chicago have been released. Only information I have been able to find is this: John Coltrane Quintet Donald Garrett (bcl, ts -1/5,10/12) John Coltrane (ss, ts) McCoy Tyner (p) Reggie Workman (b) Elvin Jones (d) "Sutherland", Chicago, IL, October 10-15, 1961 private tape. 1. Liberia 2. Vierd Blues - 3. Equinox - 4. Greensleeves - 5. Bye Bye Blackbird - 6. My Favorite Things - 7. unknown title - 8. Cousin Mary - 9. unknown title - 10. I Want to Talk About You - 11. Greensleeves - 12. 2 unknown titles - One of the interesting things about this date are the songs, a number of which are not played at the Village Vanguard only two weeks later. In fact, only Bye Bye Blackbird and Greensleeves show up on the VV set lists. It's clear that Dolphy's presence had a major influence on the set list which Donald Garrett did not have. Well, anyway, enough of my rambling on about 'Trane and 1961. So, have any of the Chicago songs seen the light of day? I can't find any record of it so far.

Speaking of prices: Why don't the B&M figure out that the lower the price, the more people will spend on cds? I would buy a lot more if the prices went down at Tower's but, outside of a sale, that never happens. A good example is the Concord sale; I bought way more cds that I never ever thought of getting because of price. Now, with all the orders Concord are getting, they have a nice cash influx. I know there has to be a mark up for running a B&M but sometimes the prices are ridiculous.

Thinking of putting in another order and I noticed that Eric Dolphy's k-2 of at the Five Spot and Outward Bound are gone.

I'm at 10 business days and still waiting word from Concord. It must take close to an hour for one persone to fill an order of 50+.
