I just found this Inner City release yesterday in a used bin. It was the first time I'd seen or heard of this one. It's from a few different sessions, and rehearsals from 1952, '53, '65, &'66. I'm really diggin' it! And I was happy to see that the tracks weren't in the Proper box. His left/right hand independence was amazing! Roy Haynes kicks it up a notch on a couple of tracks. Has this ever made it to cd?

I couldn't access AMG when I made that first post, now that I have...they review it quite favorably, but refer to it as a "hard to find lp". But I will gladly take Jazzbo's word for it! ;)

are there other, more easily obtainable ones than of this type?

That one is a relatively inexpensive Japanese reissue (¥1,500 / €12 / $14 plus shipping) and can probably be easily obtained from Hiroshi Tanno. By the way, Hiroshi not only takes PayPal, but also cash (¥ / € / $) and money orders.

so, is it worth the hassle? The different sessions/left-over approach does not necessarily promise to make for something coherent.

I had the Japanese EastWind LP way back in my vinyl days, and that's too long ago for me to be able to give it a :tup or :tdown now; I do remember liking it, though.

It's a highly recommended album. Lot of interesting aspects of Tristano's

music is explored on that one. Nothing left-over there. Just a very good gathering of

Tristano's previously unheard tracks. Still enjoy the original LP.

I've still got the 1976 EastWind vinyl slab -- it provides revealing 'bookends' for the Mosaic T/K/M box. And the RVG engineered tracks with Peter Ind and Roy Haynes are happening -- for that matter, all 10 tracks are vital and for real.
