kh1958 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Gene Ammons--Twistin' the Jug (Prestige Black and silver N.J. stereo). This looked a bit battered but was only $9 and cleaned up nicely, the result being amazingly vivid sound. Quote
Clunky Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Jimmy Giuffre Dragonfly Soul Note, I remember thinking that this was complete rubbish when I first played it about 20 yrs ago. I'm not sure I've played it it since but I'm really impressed spinning it now . Not sure how this stacks up compared to the other JG Soul Notes . I like the synth, the whole package. Nice one Jimmy, even if I didn't realise it the time. I think that was the Giuffre album that I had in the late 70s - a double if I recall - that completely mystified me. I sold it at some point in the 80s. Would be intriguing to hear again given how much other music I've since listened to. Might make sense now. Dragonfly is a single LP . Mosquito Dance is a double from 1975 Quote

Leeway Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 This is really quite a good album, with Oliver Lake, Lester Bowie, C. Bobo Shaw, and what must have been a rather young Marty Ehrlich at the time. Quote
Leeway Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 INTERface, with John Fischer, Mark Whitecage, Phillip Wilson, and Rick Kilburn. Recorded in 1978, I think at Environ, the loft space founded by Fischer. A really fine album. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Dragonfly is a single LP . Mosquito Dance is a double from 1975 DJM - That was a strange UK label. I remember when they issued a Stanley Turrentine LP with Laurel & Hardy type cover art. Back in the day their prices were just about the lowest for any jazz LP out there - apart from Embassy, MFP etc. Quote

paul secor Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Roswell Rudd: Blown Bone (Philips Japan) Not my favorite Roswell Rudd - always sounded like a bit of a mess to me. But at least this listen it sounded like a fun mess. Quote
JSngry Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Mosquito Dance is a double from 1975 Is that a combination of the two Choice albums? Quote
Leeway Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 AEC minus drummer for this 1969 Paris session. Sounds beautiful and vital to me. Quote

Leeway Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I finally found a decent copy of the first pressing of LOVE CALL at a reasonable price: Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Steve Lacy - School Days (Emanem). A wonderful record, as anyone who has heard it knows. My copy has the original one-page Emanem catalog inside - nine albums were available in the fall of 1975. Quote

JohnS Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Cedar Walton 'Mobius' (French RCA) A much funkier Cedar to the one I am used to. Strange funky album. I had it when t first came out and found it very disappointing. Didn't keep it too long. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) Cedar Walton 'Mobius' (French RCA) A much funkier Cedar to the one I am used to. Strange funky album. I had it when t first came out and found it very disappointing. Didn't keep it too long. Yes, first listen through I wasn't that over-impressed. It improves on subsequent listenings though - and anything with Cedar listed on it is worth hearing. By 70s jazz-funk standards this is actually a pretty good album ! The 'Eastern Rebellion' albums are better though. I think Cedar and his record company must have been trying to get US FM airplay. Edited February 21, 2012 by sidewinder Quote
