clifford_thornton Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 Teddy Charles - Word from Bird - (Atlantic black label mono) briefly owned a very trashed copy of this years ago. Glad to have found a nice one recently -- the music is, of course, superb. Quote

It's the second set of this gig, Feb.24, 1979. At least as good as the first set, a bit better, perhaps. Â Edited December 14, 2016 by John Tapscott Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 14, 2016 Report Posted December 14, 2016 I have never even seen a Bingow release in the racks. Not "valuable" I guess, but you don't see them often. Quote

Royal Oak Posted December 16, 2016 Report Posted December 16, 2016 Harold Land - Harold In The Land Of Jazz Fairly recent to me on vinyl, but I have had the CD for a few years. I'd forgotten how good this album is, and specifically what a nice tune "Lydia's Lament" is. Good to hear it again. Quote

kh1958 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 Stan Getz, Interpretations (Norgran), and Dizzy Gilliespie/Django Reinhardt, Jazz From Paris (Verve). The second side of the latter, featuring what are said to be Django's final final recordings, has the most vivid and alive sound I've ever heard on a Django Reinhardt recording. On electric guitar, it sounds like he is in the room. Quote
kh1958 Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 (edited) Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan Quartet (Pacific Jazz ten inch), and Marvin Stamm/Johnny Carisi, Machinations (Verve). The latter LP I had never heard before and listened to the first side  expecting some sort of dated period piece--the liner notes after describing the songs say, Do you want to turn it over or listen to that first side again? On first listen, hell yes I want to hear that side again, it was unexpectedly great. Edited December 17, 2016 by kh1958 Quote
sidewinder Posted December 17, 2016 Report Posted December 17, 2016 The 'Machinations' sometimes gets a pretty lukewarm response, probably due to some dated guitar sounds on it.  Count me in as a fan though too  - boring it isn't ! Quote

On second listen, I liked the first side just as much. The second side a bit less but still good. Joe Beck on guitar sounds perfectly fine to my ears. Next, Lee Konitz, Motion (Verve), and Jelly Roll Morton, Mr. Jelly Lord, Library of Congress Piano Solos (Riverside).  Quote
