I've never heard of this one. How is it?

It's the second set of this gig, Feb.24, 1979. At least as good as the first set, a bit better, perhaps.

This is a terrific album. :tup

Agreed.

It was issued in the US with the more pedestrian title of "The Songs Of Johnny Mercer" by Inner City in 1980 on vinyl and by The Jazz Alliance in 1996 on CD.

Her life did have a tragic end, but I think that she had ups as well as down in her life.

Harold Land - Harold In The Land Of Jazz

Fairly recent to me on vinyl, but I have had the CD for a few years. I'd forgotten how good this album is, and specifically what a nice tune "Lydia's Lament" is. Good to hear it again.

You've been listening to some great stuff recently, Richard! ^_^

Stan Getz, Interpretations (Norgran), and Dizzy Gilliespie/Django Reinhardt, Jazz From Paris (Verve). The second side of the latter, featuring what are said to be Django's final final recordings, has the most vivid and alive sound I've ever heard on a Django Reinhardt recording. On electric guitar, it sounds like he is in the room.

Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan Quartet (Pacific Jazz ten inch), and Marvin Stamm/Johnny Carisi, Machinations (Verve).

The latter LP I had never heard before and listened to the first side  expecting some sort of dated period piece--the liner notes after describing the songs say, Do you want to turn it over or listen to that first side again? On first listen, hell yes I want to hear that side again, it was unexpectedly great.

The 'Machinations' sometimes gets a pretty lukewarm response, probably due to some dated guitar sounds on it.  Count me in as a fan though too  - boring it isn't !

On second listen, I liked the first side just as much. The second side a bit less but still good. Joe Beck on guitar sounds perfectly fine to my ears.

Next, Lee Konitz, Motion (Verve), and Jelly Roll Morton, Mr. Jelly Lord, Library of Congress Piano Solos (Riverside).
