I regret, it was high summer ;-)! After I have had finished a narrow gauge boat trip with my family on the Llangollen Canal we went to Wrexham nearby ... 1 hour ago, mjazzg said: Marion Brown's comment "You could use this record to heat up the apartment on those cold winter days" seems apt as the UK grinds to a halt with snow and cold temperatures that many other countries wouldn't bat an eyelid at I know this quote. It is from the liner notes of the LP "Ascension"! Currently we have in Göttingen - 3 ° C (27 ° F), sunny, no snow! Edited March 1, 2018 by optatio Quote

jeffcrom Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) Rev. Johnny L. "Hurricane" Jones - Do Your Thing (Jewel). From J.M. Gates to Jasper Williams to The Hurricane, Atlanta has always had the best recording preachers. Just sayin'. This is some sermon. After referencing the parable of the talents, Rev. Jones is now preaching/singing, " Joe Frazier did his thing. Muhammad Ali did his thing!" Edited March 2, 2018 by jeffcrom Quote

mjazzg Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 new arrival that completes my Marte Roling/Fontana set, if we discount the mythical Rod Levitt. The music's great too Quote

sidewinder Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) Charlie Parker Records, mono. Wanted to hear again ‘The Cloisters (Dance Suite)’ after hearing the latest Octet perform it at Smalls recently. Side two has selections from ‘Porgy and Bess’ - some great Hobart Dotson. mjazzg Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Subtitled "New York Section Composers of the 1970's" Some great music on this from Sam Rivers, Mary Lou Williams, Gil Evans, Milford Graves and Sunny Murray The Sunny Murray piece may be the stand out. It's credited to UMUM Quartet about which my initial searches finds nothing. Anyone know who they are? Quote

I have been struggling to change speeds on the WTA. I only wanted a parallel shift (to something easier to use ) but wound up with a TTthat sounds many leagues better. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) Very nice, congrats. Never heard the VPI but have heard very good things about them. I use one of their RCMs and it is built like a tank, great quality. Had great fun listening to the Linn this afternoon amidst the blizzards. Best thing to ever come out of Scotland.. Adding a Radikal to LP12 really helped with the speed changes. Doesn’t do 78rpm though. Edited March 2, 2018 by sidewinder Quote
