Firstly it was Echo & The Bunnymen, then The Ramones and now even further back, the mighty Feelgood. "Stupidity" was the soundtrack to many a teenage evening. I just looked it up and it reached No.1 in the UK album charts! Quote

Clunky Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 Lars Gullin -------Portrait of my pals--------(EMI Sweden)  First LP from the box set above. This release doesn't have the four bonus tracks from these sessions which appeared on the 2002 CD. Quote
mjazzg Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 (edited) Today's two somewhat contrasting purchases. Both very listenable on first acquaintance Klaus Doldinger - Dig Doldinger [Phillips] Charles Tyler - Eastern Man Alone [ESP] Edited March 7, 2018 by mjazzg Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 Johnny Hodges - Mess Of Blues (Verve). This could've been called "Mess Of Creed Taylor Production" since he somehow made this small band sound like they're playing an airplane hanger and Wild Bill Davis' organ is way too far to the front of the mix. Very jarring at times. The worst thing is that someone appears to have played the last track of Side 1, "Little John, Little John" with a scalpel that amazingly plays through without a skip. I'd give this 3.5 stars for Hodges, 1 star for Davis and 0 stars for sound. Luckily, it was very cheap. Quote

I’ve picked a few of these Hodges plus organ albums but this sounds like one to avoid. Now playing  Jimmy Witherspoon ——-There’s good rockin’ tonight———( Fontana/Interdisc)  Wonderful date recorded for Pacific. Sound juicy Teddy Edwards here. Quote

Clunky Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Pepper Adams ———Plays the compositions of Charlie Mingus———(Workshop/ Motown)  nicely played session , perhaps too nicely,  it’s not twee but lacks a little of the grit that you get with Mingus. Great lineup includes Thad Jones, Zoot, Hank Jones, Benny Powell, Danny Richmond and Charles McPhearson. Quote
