I think there's something slippery & elusive about New Rags, and I mean that both positively and negatively. ... I agree that it's not his best. The two LPs that came immediately after it -- New Directions and Special Edition -- are probably my favorites from DeJohnette-as-a-leader on ECM. Quote

For some reason, the Melodisc LP was held back for several years, although recorded in 1967 I believe. In that ‘Jazz 625’ tribute programme on BBC the other week Gilles Peterson was handling a copy of this very LP, although he didn’t get chance to say anything about it !
