Homefromtheforest Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Agreed...they're excellent albums..a shame. The BAG lp is nice...sold mine ages ago only to buy another copy just a few years back because I realized it was a mistake to have gotten rid of it! :/ Marion Brown "le temps fou" (polydor, France) A wonder none of those Brown-Hampel group LPs have been reissued... all three are wonderful. clifford_thornton Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 ^ Interesting date. Glad it's out there. Clarke Boland Big Band - Off Limits - (Polydor GER) I return to this CBBB session a fair amount, probably because it's a bit more left-field than most of the catalog. Quote

jeffcrom Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 New York Woodwind Quintet - Alec Wilder Sketches the World's Most Beautiful Girls (Golden Crest) This is one of those completely unclassifiable Alec Wilder albums. Wilder has taken a bunch of songs with women's names in the title ("Liza," "Sweet Lorraine," etc.), added several similarly-titled original pieces, and arranged the lot for classical woodwind quintet. On the face of it, this is a really stupid idea, and the resulting album should be terrible - but it's pretty good; it's got the feel of his famous octets. Can't find a picture of the "bathing beauties from different countries" cover. Quote
sidewinder Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 (edited) Neil Ardley 'A Symphony of Amaranths' (Regal Zonophone) Ardley's masterpiece, IMO. With a wonderful cast too, including some renowned British classical players of the time - and Ivor Cutler. Edited July 20, 2013 by sidewinder Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Maynard Parker, After Midnight (Prestige), and Do you mean 'Midnight rider'? Nice vinyl afto Willis Jackson - In the alley - Muse Charles Earland - Soul story - Prestige Les McCann - Pretty lady - Pacific Jazz (King Jap) George Benson - Breezin' - WB (UK) - Not played this for quite a while. The killer track is still 'This masquerade'; not that the rest is bad, but 'This masquerade' is the only one that DEMANDS that you listen. MG Quote
kh1958 Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Yes, you are right, the Maynard Parker album is named for the Greg Allman song, Midnight Rider. Quote
