Jazzmatazz reports Blue Note will reissue a 3CD Chet Baker set.

Couldn't find any information regarding this set. Will it cover all the live dates or all studio sessions (former Mosaic sets)? Maybe it's a collection of unreleased sessions :tup or is it a hugh "Best of Chet" :tdown ?

Anyone with any infos???!

Previously it was reported on jazzmatazz that the following albums would be reissued:

- Chet Baker Big Band

- Chet Baker Ensemble

- Chet Baker Sextet

- Chet Baker Sings and Plays

Maybe they will be included in a 3CD set?

A "Best of Chet" box set ("The Pacific Jazz Years", 4CDs) was already released in the mid 90's, so this seems more unlikely.

Maybe it'll be a reissue of what was on Mosaic ala Herbie Nichols. Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't have him singing. I can't take his singing. And whatever they do, I hope it has some Phil Urso. In fact, I'd like to see some of his stuff reissued. He's way underappreciated.

While I certainly prefer instrumental Chet to vocal Chet, I think his early vocal efforts are nicely turned. Listen to tunes like "Look For The Silver Lining" or "Let's Get Lost" and you'll hear, at least IMO, an evocation of innocence conveyed with a clearness and clarity that are really quite appealing. Later period Chet is a bit more of an acquired taste, but even that has its own particular, peculiar allure. Of course, you're talking to someone who thinks the world of Chet Baker, so I'm admittedly biased.

BTW, if you don't have the two disc set "The Last Great Concert", I see that it's recently been reissued. That one is a keeper, late period Chet or not.

Up over and out.

if you give even 1/10th of a crap for Hawk, Pres, Bird, Ben Webster, etc. etc. (to name just the most obvious), ** you gotta know the tunes **.

One would indeed think so...

Indeed! I find it rather disturbing how many people there are that like standards, but have no idea about the lyrics, as they *hate* all vocal jazz... (if they consider it jazz, at all)

I love Chet's singing -it was one of the reasons I was attracted to his music - the first rec I heard of him was the Last Great Concert, and you can hear his dentures and his lips smacking together between phrase - I dug the vulnerabilty in those performances - then to hear the 50's PacJazz stuff, WOW!

Of course, my ID "Aftab" I got from a scene in Let's Get Lost when Chet reveals his first son's middle name.
