Saw it a couple of weeks ago. If you like Christopher Guest's films, you'll like this. His most "gentle" perhaps, but that's not ncessarily bad. This was almost as good as Best of Show for me. I liked it. Fun for the whole family.

Not as much like "Spinal Tap" as it is like "Best In Show" or "Guffman". "Tap" was the story of one band, this film is about several characters (incl. 3 folk ensembles) involved in putting together a tribute show.

The NPR bit focused almost exclusively on the "history" of "the band", much like Spinal Tap. Interesting that the movie goes in a different direction.

Guess I should have recorded that NPR thing!

I thought this was a great movie. The album covers they display were a real creative hoot! Levy does a wonderful job in many aspects: storyline, songwriting, acting. (Guest was great on storyline and songwriting too.) Fred Willard is "on." It is a very funny and clever film!

I bet the piece JS heard was from Fresh Air. That show has it's own site and archives shows. They did one recently with Bob Koester on the 50th anniversary of Delmark. It's an interesting listen.

I heard that! A good interview.

One reason Spinal Tap is different from Guffman and the others is that Guest didn't direct Spinal Tap, Rob Reiner did. The other three movies were directed by Christopher Guest and have a noticeably different tone.

Just saw the "Mighty Wind" LIVE show. It was very funny. All 3 groups were there in their entirety including Parker Posey & Paul Dooley with the New Main Street Singers. They did all the 'hits' - BOTH versions of "Never Did No Wanderin'", the Folksmen doing "Start Me Up" and many others. Bob Balaban did the MC-ing between acts with some help from Jennifer Coolidge.

... and yes.....Harry Shearer DID come out in drag.
