JSngry Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I'm going with the Cheez-Whiz, because at least Velveet comes in a psedo block. Cheez-Whiz comes in either a jar or a spray can. I ain't never heard of no cheese coming in no jar. And spray cans are for paint and haircare products, of which Cheez-Whiz is neither, at least if used as the manufacturer intended. Arst ye w'me or neigh? Quote
John L Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I lived for 5 years in Philly. I therefore take swipes at Cheez-Whiz as personal insults. That is a staple of the Philly diet, the very foundation of the Cheesesteak!!!!!! Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Speaking of Velveeta, will anyone fess up to trying that yummy-looking recipe for cheesy salsa (you know, the one on the commercial they run when football season starts up)? Is it any good? Quote
catesta Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) I ain't never heard of no cheese coming in no jar. That's some funny shit, Jim. I voted Cheez-Wiz, sorry John, a buddy of mine used to sit and spray that shit out on crackers for hours while watching TV. That just never seemed right to me, and ruined any chance of me ever trying to like it. Edited August 13, 2004 by catesta Quote

Is it any good? quesos in all the non authentic restaurants are velveeta based to some degree, i believe. it won't seize up that way. i mean you can pretty much work with caulking for about an hour before it really sets in to the tile. pour some hot salsa in there and add salty chips, many beers and who cares!!! just make sure to take the pigskin out at half-time to wear a bit of it off! but if someone knows how to make it better let er rippp. Quote

Is it any good? Oh yeah baby! Definitely a guilty pleasure. Melt the Velveeta (at a low temp) w/a little milk so it doesn't burn and then mix in the salsa. A little chili powder or chipotle doesn't hurt. Try some of that new Tabasco chipotle! I've also been known to add a little browned ground beef. Velveeta is the key ingredient 'cause it melts really well, as opposed to cheddar, etc. Yeah, it ain't health food but it is tasty. What, do you want to live forever? B-) EDIT: Of course if you're sloppin' down a Pat's cheesesteak, it's GOT to be the Wiz! Edited August 13, 2004 by Free For All Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Damned if I know on this poll; I wouldn't touch either one of them! Quote
JSngry Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 The original version of the dip is made w/Ro-Tel Diced Tomatoes & Green Chiles. Try the "spicy" version that's been on the market for a few years now, and instead of ground beef, use chorizo, or any other spicy sausage that is available in your area. Is it good? Oh HELL yeah! It's about the sole redeeming feature of Velveeta, which is one more than Cheez-Whiz has going for it (although I've never been to Philly. But CHEEZ-WHIZ H. KRYST - can't a city that rich in tradition find something better for their signature sandwhiches?) Quote

jazzbo Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 It works. . . try some refried beans in there too. But it's not going to win a taste test against some real mexican cheeses. . . but hardly would it be expected to. I voted against the Whiz. For many reasons. Quote
Free For All Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Damned if I know on this poll; I wouldn't touch either one of them! It's like Alien vs. Predator- "no matter who wins, we lose"! Quote
JSngry Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 I voted against the Whiz. For many reasons. That sounds pretty deep, Lon. Care to share? Quote
Free For All Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) Regarding the Velveeta dip, you can also dump some beer in it, very tasty. Might as well go for it, Dan- Charley's a-comin'! Edited August 13, 2004 by Free For All Quote
jazzbo Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Nothing mystical or even politically inspired. It comes in a can, or a jar. It looks. . . well I don't like its looks. I once saw my brother eat some that had sat on a cracker so long it had HARDENED. THAT DID IT FOR ME! NO MORE WHIZ! Quote
JSngry Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 It looks. . . well I don't like its looks. I know THAT'S right! It's the food equivalent of Quote
John L Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 You guys don't know shit. Without Cheez-Whiz, how else could you glue the beef to the top of a Cheesesteak Hoggie where it belongs? Sheesh! Quote
Free For All Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Cheesesteak Hoggie Is that the pork version? Quote
John L Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Cheesesteak Hoggie Is that the pork version? Hoagie. Sorry about that. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 HEY, when I make a cheesesteak hoagie, I use SWISS CHEESE. That stuff makes a very fix it and forget it adhesive! Quote
John L Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 See, Lon, and you would have blown the whole campaign in Philly just like Kerry did: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A...anguage=printer Quote
jazzbo Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 I certainly don't want to do anything that might endanger the Kerry campaign. But here in Texas. . . no one knows any better. And I lived in Philly from the ages of 2 to 11, from 1957 to 1966. . .a n d I don't remember any Whiz on hoagies! Of any kind! (The kind of Philly hoagy I long for is the italian type! YUM!) Quote
John L Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) I just hope that when he comes down to one of your Texas BBQs, he doesn't ask for veal. Edited August 13, 2004 by John L Quote
jazzbo Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 (edited) Doesn't matter what he eats here in Tejas. . . he's not going to win this state. (Even if by the oddest of chances he really won the state, the fix would be in.) I wish it were even remotely possible! Edited August 13, 2004 by jazzbo Quote
