Guest ariceffron Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Laurindo Almedia A Man And A Woman Capitol Records (mid 60s? hmm???) ---------- WHAT A GREAT RECORD. I GUESS IT COULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A BOSSA NOVA LP BUT IT IS MORE THAN THAT. THE TITLE TRACK IS SO SEXY- EVEN MORE SO THAN OTHER BOSSA NUMBERS. IT SOUNDS TO BE LIKE BASED ON QUIET NIGHTS OF QUIET STARS. I THINK ITS BEEN USED IN A NUMBER OF ITALIAN FILMS BESIDES 'A MAN AND A WOMAN'--, WHICH BY THE WAY I HAVE NOT SEEN. (IS IT WORTH IT? SHOULD I RENT IT- IS THE CHICK IN IT HOT?) AND WHATS WITH THOSE PESKY CAPITOL LPS W/ NO MUSICAN INFO. IM SURE A LOT OF GREAT PLAYERS ARE ON IT. ANYWAYS, IF YOU HAVE THIS RECORD PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT, AND IF YOU DONT, FEEL FREE TO STATE YOUR REASONING AND BACK UP YOUR CLAIMS!! Quote

"It's the Spanish Inquisition!" Q: Do you have Laurindo Almeida's A Man and a Woman, volume 2? A: Er, no... Q: And WHY NOT, MAY I ASK? A: [cowers in shame and agony] Quote
brownie Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 I don't have it. I have no intention of purchasing any album that has 'A Man and a Woman' on it. Hate that song It's the title song of that 1966 sentimental French movie by Claude Lelouch. The film was a popular hit at the time but was not really good. It has aged badly. So has its music Quote

So has its music Here´s the Spanish Inquisition! Capital Punishment for you, brownie! (I have no idea if that disc is good or bad -in fact I always rely on brownie´s tastes and criteria-, but as Inquisidor Mayor del Reino, I have to decree capital punishment) Quote
EKE BBB Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 put him in the comfy chair! I´d really prefer garrote! Quote
brownie Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Ready to endure anything, as long as it's not a lifetime listening to the damn song Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 IF THESE SUPURFLURY (SIC?) POSTS DONT STOP APPEARING IN ***IF YOU DONT HAVE IT***, YOU ALL WILL BE BANNED FROM THE COLUMN. IS THERE EVEN REALLY A VOL 2 TO THE LP OR WERE U MAKING A WISECRACK THAT ITS VOL 2 OF THE NEW COLUMN. THE ONLY GUY THAT ANSWERED GOOD WAS THE GUY WHO SAID HE DIDNT LIKE IT AND HE GAVE REASONS. NOW DONT GET ME WRONG HE SUX TOO BUT FOR ENTIRELY DIFFERENT (AND VAILD) REASONS. Quote
brownie Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Aric, I'll add one more SUPURFLURY item. Shortly after the film came out - remember it was a very big international hit - I had dinner with Paul Bley and his then companion Annette Peacock. Everything went fine until Annette Peacock who probably thought she had to be nice to a Frenchman mentioned that 'A Man and a Woman' was her current favorite song. It took me years to get over that negative feeling about her. It's over now and I get kicks out of her albums these days! You can ban me now Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 NO BROWINE-- DONT WORRY YOURE COOL. GOOD COMMENTS FROM U. INTERESTING. YEA I CAN SEE HOW A CHICK WOULD DIG IT MORE THAN A GUY Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 PS- WAS BLEY DATING GARY PEACOCKS SISTER OR SOMETJING Quote
brownie Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Annette became Peacock when she married Gary in 1960. She was born Annette Coleman. Sure you don't want to know about the Bleys, Paul and Carla and others... Quote
mikeweil Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Laurindo Almedia A Man And A Woman Capitol Records (mid 60s? hmm???) Bruyninckx gives ca. 1966 as year of recording, which sounds reasonable, but hasn't any personnel either - sorry. I only have a compilation of tracks from his two "Bossa Nova" LPs for Capitol, and though it's extremely well played and the musicians are top pros, I wish they had gone a little less commercial. They were capable of much hotter playing than allowed. Quote
robviti Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 "It's the Spanish Inquisition!" No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Quote
JSngry Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Annette became Peacock when she married Gary in 1960. She was born Annette Coleman. Sure you don't want to know about the Bleys, Paul and Carla and others... God, Annette is almost Ornette. That Paul Bley don't leave the circle much, do he? I don't have this album (because) I've never come across it. Is it small group, or is there an orchestra? Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 IM NOT SAYING ITS NOT COMMERCIAL. OF COURSE IT IS. BUT ITS GOOD, JUST LIKE BENNY GOLSONS TUNE IN TURN ON LP, WHICH IS ***LITERALLY*** COMMERCIALS, IS ALSO GOOD Quote

neveronfriday Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 (Old) MAC (?) How To Disable the Caps Lock Key 1. Make a copy of the System file (in your System Folder). 2. Open the copy with ResEdit. 3. Open the KCHR resource. 4. Select one of the keyboard layouts (I used the U.S. System 6 layout). 5. Choose Duplicate from the Edit menu. 6. Highlight the duplicate and press Command-I. 7. Name the new layout something like No Caps Lock. 8. Open that layout by double-clicking. 9. Press the Caps Lock key. You'll notice that the picture of the Caps Lock key onscreen darkens. 10. Drag the lower case letters in the upper window to the appropriate spots on the picture of the keyboard (drag "a" to the "A" key). 11. Close and save the window. Quit ResEdit. 12. Name the altered system somthing like Altered System. 13. Drag your real System out of the System Folder and replace it with Altered System (DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR OLD SYSTEM! You might need it again). 14. Once Altered System is in the System Folder, rename it System. 15. Restart your Mac. 16. To get rid of Caps Lock, open the Keyboard control panel and select the No Caps Lock layout. 17. Pushing Caps Lock will now seemingly have no effect. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 I rarely use the term "LOL" but this is definitely the right occasion. That's priceless, deus62. I have no idea why ariceffron can't figure out how to use the caps (among other things). He's an endless source of entertainment, though. I keep on thinking it's a put-on but I'm pretty sure it's not. Quote
robviti Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) when i ask patients (both kids and adults) why they are prone to yell, most often they reply, "it's the only way they'll listen" or "it's either that, or i don't get heard." what i find interesting is the board's response (or lack of) to what is generally considered unacceptable internet behavior. in most porn chat rooms, a person gets booted for typing in caps. at least that's what i've heard. er, um...heh heh. Edited December 2, 2004 by jazzshrink Quote
Nate Dorward Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Yeah, that's true, I only learned how to really use the caps lock properly when I took "Advanced Shift Key Techniques" in my 4th year. Quote
Brad Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 It's been a long while since we had a good Aric thread. Funny to see him threaten to ban someone since he used to get banned as a regular thing. Quote
JSngry Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Is there an orchestra on this album? Quote
