Kalo Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 This is a great DVD. Time to watch it again. Quote
Tjazz Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 A Dick Cavett 2-DVD with Ray Charles is coming out. $15 thru deepdiscountdvd.com Quote
sheldonm Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I wondered too, until I saw the DVD. It looks like Tina, and it sounds like Tina. It's Tina. Bertrand. ← I spoke to Fathead about this DVD a while back. He told me Tina was very underrated (and fun to play with)!!!........no kidding! Mark Quote
Soulstation1 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 this dvd is the freaking shit picked it up at bestbuy for $13 anyone pick up the cavet dvd? i saw that one at bb also Quote
Soulstation1 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 i dig the overhead view of ray's hands playin' the intro on moanin Quote
Jazz Kat Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I had no idea Ray played sax. There must of been something wrong with my disk. The second set was all fuzzy. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 The second set is worse than the first set, which was a rehearsal. The second set was the real show, live. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 (edited) it was stated in the dvd booklet that the second show's original footage wasn't very good quality. they threw it in as a bonus Edited November 8, 2005 by Soulstation1 Quote
medjuck Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 BTW Have you guys seen the Newport concert that comes with the big Atlantic box. Another great DVD. I saw a Ray Charles concert in 1961. He was already playing arenas! (The Montreal Forum.) Quote
DukeCity Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I'm not just late to the party, I think they've already cleaned up and locked the doors... But bumped up because I finally got a chance to sit down and watch this thing. HUGE Fathead and Tina! Plus, it's interesting how much the sound of the band opens up when they're playing Moanin'. Maybe a different arranger, or maybe the band just dug playing the tune. Guys I have talked to who played on Ray's band always said that one of the best parts of the gig was getting to play the opening instrumentals. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I'm waiting for the Lonehill "Complete" version. Quote
Kalo Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I'm waiting for the Lonehill "Complete" version. So you're just another "disconforme-ist"? Quote
HolyStitt Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Anyone seen the Ray In Israel dvd ?? It's from the early 1970's, but it is also very good. Quite a few great shots of Ray checking out religous monuments. Quote
HolyStitt Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I played this for a couple of friends about a month ago, They were both impressed but sorta lost interest after a few tunes. When I played the DVD for a friend he had the same reaction. He seemed more impressed with the commercials than the music! I love the DVD, it's great to see the band perform. The appearance by Tina Brooks was just a huge bonus! Can anyone that has seen the DVD on the Atlantic box talk more about it? Quote
